Hi folks. I'm basically wondering if it'd be worth my while upgrading/replacing my 4.5 year old gaming machine, which is on its last legs.

    Current specs:
    Core 2 Duo 3ghz
    4gb ram
    4890 1gb gpu (replaced an 8800 gts 640mb)
Dying hard drives and pretty much unused optical drive

I'm wondering if it's possible to get the following for about 600:
    • New case, motherboard, processor, ram, SSD, HDD, PSU
    • New low power, cheap graphics card to put in the current pc, to let it continue playing HD video etc.

The plan at the minute is to use the 4890 in the new build, but would that be worthwhile? Or would the GPU be holding the other components back?

I'd be using it mostly on a 1680x1050 monitor, sometimes 1080p. Gaming-wise a single 1080p is the highest resolution it'd be going in its lifetime. Apart from that, high resolution photoshop and some web design.
