And to be honest if the people around here argued the issue of affordability I'd have a lot more respect for them than the bullsh1t that went on for months on end.

I'm not paying cos it's my home, WAAAAAA
I'm not paying cos the country bailed out the Banks, WAAAAA
(and then the ring leaders are claiming expenses?!?!?!?!?! Assholes.

The consistent tone of this thread has been 'principle'. What a joke and about time people grew up. A hell of a lot of the 'I'm not paying it on principle...' group can afford it much more than a lot of people who did pay it.

Miserable gits believing somebody else should pay for them. Now the arguments are falling away. I presume sone other crap reason will be mooted.

Affordability can be measured. Lets get past 'principle'.

The roof over my head is a basic necessity, not a luxory.
I've paid the mortgage on it.,I paid my stamp duty.

A house is a product, not a service, just as are the clothes in your wardrobe or the food in your fridge. You don't continue to pay tax on clothes while you're wearing them, or milk while you're drinking it, or bread while you're eating it.
Miserable gits believing somebody else should pay for them

No they don,t-most of them have already paid it in the form of stampy duty-they re right not to pay it- sinn fein and others have layed out alternative ways to raise money-but the blueshirts don,t want to listen or know- instead keep choosing to target low and middle income households- meanwhile we learn Ireland's top 10,000 earners pay an effective rate of 29 per cent income tax, Finance Minister Michael Noonan has said. instead of taxing them some more- they wanna keep taxing low/middle income households more and more while those at the top high earnings get taxed less.

Most politicians claim expenses, be it vouched expenses or unvouched expenses.

Brian hayes fg td used his travel expenses to travel around the country also, wonder if you think if hes an asshole too ?
Brian Hayes, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, disclosed yesterday that when in opposition he had used his allowance, worth €1,000 per month, to cover the costs of his travel throughout the country in his capacity as Fine Gael education spokesman.
Mr Hayes told The Irish Times yesterday: “My understanding in opposition was that it was for use for travelling in your own constituency, but also for travel throughout the country in your role as a public representative.

“I was the party spokesman on education and went to universities, institutes and schools throughout the State to meet people, to attend meetings, to listen to people. I was getting no money from the party for that. I used my allowance for that.

Ya, but unfortunately (for you) the majority of people in this country don't want Sinn Fein representing them. FG/FF/Labour polled 70% in the last election, and they all support the imposition of a property tax.

Regarding your point on the contribution of Higher Earners, the only relevant questions are:
    - how their tax contribution compares to other countries,
    - how much has their contribution increased over the past number of years,
    - What is their total combined contribution when you included USC and PRSI.

This country needs its entrepreneurs and higher earners / contributors. Otherwise we get them out and put a household charge of Eur10k a year in place!! Or else we close our schools and hospitals.

Typical Irish Socialism > Instead of 'Everyone should Pay', it's 'Someone else should Pay'.

    Stop breaking the Law.
Stop being a cheat and a sponge.
    Pay your tax.

Based on a heap of lies and false empty promises- as admitted by pat rabbitte on vincent brown tuesday night and ruairi quinn on labours way on rte they knew they were making promises more then likely they mightn,t keep, but hey as long as they get peoples votes that,s all that matters.same goes for fine gael and their broken promises of not one more red cent to the banks/bondholders, not to close to roscommon accident and emergency. some people were naive enough to beleive they were voting for change when they beleived their promises.

and they all support the imposition of a property tax.

Really ? I seem to recall most of the polls done most polled were against the household tax- and a poll back in april in the Irish times over 60% were against the household tax and any future property tax.

Affordability can be measured. Lets get past 'principle'.

Have to disagree there, affordability probably could be measured but would take vast amounts of time, personnel and cash... and it would still be inequitable eg. council tenants, they have a house for little rent, they are costing the country millions, many could well afford the hhc and they also avail of all the services the hhc is supposedly going to fund.
Affordability should not even enter the equation, for most people it is a matter of principle. People have a very legitimate right to be angry at politicians and banks.
Also, all this talk about breaking the law or encouraging others to break the law, what a load of crap. If a law is seen by a huge proportion of the people as being immoral and is met with massive resistance then the gov. should acknowledge this and stop this farce now. It amazes me how the gov. can introduce laws quickly when they need to or want to while other more important issues are neglected for years / decades.....where is Shatter ?
If people have paid this hhc who could not afford to then bigger fools them, my priorities are to my family and home. If a millionaire decides not to pay, regardless of his motives, then I say well done.
Finally, are you suggesting that people should forgive and forget and just get on with it, should we all just bend over and accept whatever crap the gov. decide to throw at us to clean up the mess caused by bankers and politicians who have all got away scott free?...if you or the gov. think this, then you have seriously misjudged the mood and anger among the people......

I have this gut feeling that Bishop Donal hasn't paid yet and I think i'm right. He comes across as a "holier than thou" type and they are often such hypocrites, hence the "Bishop" in his name. I remember Bishop Casey preaching on the values of chastity and celibacy while he was secretly giving Annie one.

Hi All, Hope you are having a Nice Friday Night. Just to fill you in...The person who has been put in the position of ''Claiming'' Our Household tax, has now being sent to harvard at the taxpayers cost. The head of L.G.M.A{ Local Government Management Agency), is on a ''Training course In America. At a cost of ( In Euro) 9, 258 euro. At our expense. Great Job Eh??. The course is three weeks, and called... Wait for it..''Senior Executives in State, and Local Government''. Fact. Google it.
THE taxpayer is paying almost €10,000 to send the head of the body responsible for collecting the €100 household charge to a prestigious American Ivy League college.

Chief executive of the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) Paul McSweeney has enrolled at the 'senior executives in state and local government' course at Harvard University.

The three-week programme will cost the hard-pressed taxpayer €9,239.

Yesterday Environment Minister Phil Hogan admitted it had cost $313,550 (€253,050) since 2008 to send 28 senior local government officials on the course.

I predicted that a few days ago. It just goes to prove that they don't know who has or hasn't paid or how many there are.
