Will their own houses they are all intending selling, be at some advantage compared to the ones they are buying, in terms of being at the bottom of their market value?

No. They just want to preserve the option of being able to crystallize their current house value, so that if (and indeed when) an opportunity arises they can avail of it. It's simple enough logic in a bear market.

Certainly not all of them will sell their homes though.

I've been accused of trolling, of being a tax defaulter and now of being a loner in the last few days - All because I advocate compliance with the law to help deal with 1% of the deficit problem of this country!!

I think the Don't Register; Don't Pay campaign are struggling!!!! Love it.

Who accused you of these things?

I think your paranoia is getting the better of you;)

Well i'm not struggling at all and neither are my buddies. We are all quite comfortable and happy thank you. Not complying with unjust, unfair and immoral taxes which would only be handed to bondholders and bankers makes us very happy indeed.

Good for you and the most sincere of apologies if you feel I inferred anything else. I only spoke about the ambition of my acquaintances.

Nope, but nice projection. I'm 100% tax compliant in the UK.

    no struggle here buddy :-)

it mostly boils down to home owners getting hit with more charges while the fat cats get wage increases, the politicians buy silk ties, the hse buy medical card holders viagra and the LA tennants contribute when they buy a mars bar in return the get there accomodation renovated.

can you honestly and truely blame middle class home owners for feeling like the piss is being taken when all they see is the costs of providing for there family go up and little being done to make the rest chip in to the same extent?

No. It makes me as sick as a pig.

I'd love to see them get royally screwed (and ultimately I still hope it will happen). I absolutely believe that the disincentive for people who earn 40 or 50k a year is massive. That is deplorable & you are pushing an open door there as far as I'm concerned.

And I'd love to see all the waste eliminated in the PS, although I can't pinpoint exactly where it is (and I am conscious that one mans waste is another mans salary). And I'd especially like to see the welfare fraud nailed so bucking hard that they'd scream.

But I don't believe in defaulting on legitimate taxes and trying to collapse the country to make my point.

I also don't believe in incurring interest or penalties to teach myself a lesson.

I have no doubt at all that if the same taxes were introduced by F.F. you would be on the other side of the fence. No doubt at all.

I dont believe in filling a tank with more water, if the pipes out of it are leaking. Fixing the leaks first might be better.

    I'm afraid you're wrong there.

Regrettably I see no difference between FG and FF at this stage (with maybe the single exception that FG have been a hell of a lot more lucky/less accident prone since they came to power).

TBH, my political viewpoint is simply not represented by any of the 166 individuals we have in DE at the moment.

There is no sufficiently right wing option.

A bit like the proposed water charges, wouldn't you think they'd fix the infrastructure, create some employment along the way and then consider charging people for it.

Like everything in Ireland it's done arse about face.

Sometimes the 'thick paddies' tag seems to be right about the powers that be.

i dont think anyone is doing it to bring the country to its knees. as a country i dont think were hostile in that way. its more a protest against middle class home owners, who the majority of pay all other taxes/charges required and are entitled to very little mostly because they work, getting taxed/charged again. something was bound to give after the past 3 or 4 years. its all come to a head for some of us now. thats pretty much the way i see it and a little bit of why im not paying.

It is right. phil and co know well that if a €700 property tax was brought in at the start, a very low percentage would of paid.

We already seen the "its only 8.33 a month" posts. The reality is, it was a database building excercise to prepare for the real charge, with them knowing many would register thinking 100 euro is not bad.

The pro posters here would have paid it even if it had been 1000 euro to start with, as they see it as the law, beyond reproach. And one or two of them, with possibly some sort of personal vested interest in everyone paying it, would have preferred it was 1000 to start with.

James Reilly's house is exempt as it is a listed building.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭darkhorse

I suppose it's about who you hang out with!

My buddies have ambition and will want to trade up to better houses in due course. They won't want an accrued liability with associated interest and penalties sitting as an encumbrance on their sale proceeds. They need to be ready to execute close to the bottom of the market (especially after the full property tax has been introduced).

I have the same ambition, but because of the state of our country, I can't see me having the time.

    Now that is just wrong.
He's getting tax breaks too. Milking the system.
If he's not paying then neither should we.

I'll have to check that out as I live in a listed building.

It'll be interesting to see if a mere mortal who lives in a listed building, a thatched cottage (and the expenses incurred in preserving that building because it is listed) is exempt from this charge/tax, or is it only the 'elite' who own listed buildings that are exempt.

I'll be on to my LA in the morning.

Jesus, I don't get any tax breaks.

All I get is bills for the extra maintenance involved.

Could be a grey area dv.

I'll ring my LA tomorrow to find out.

To be fair, because my home is listed, I do have a lot of extra expenditure that I wouldn't have in a 'normal' house.
