Ride on mower recommendations please

Hi My father in law is on the lookout for his first ride on mower. It will have to be second hand and a max value of €1000. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips on what to look out for? Thanks.

There have been many threads on this already, you should search back.
I have a six year old Castlegarden 13HP B&S motor with 36" deck and it's been a pleasure to own and run. I have another Castlegarden self propelled and it's about 12 years old without any trouble.

I'd say ensure you get a Briggs & Stratton engine and keep it serviced.

Lots of hire shops will have second hand lowers for sale but I'd question how well cared for they are. Some have had a hard life out on the country.
