    Hi guys!
Have recently been freed up with some time and am looking for a new, yet interesting hobby (lim/tipp/clare area).
I like sports (except water ones really, and I tried tag but didnt like it). Any cool things to do out there? Doesnt necessarily have to be sports related.
    Cheers!

    Mountain biking is quite fun.

Was gonna suggest the same... It's what I'd be doing if I had free time.
Why not take a trip up to ballyhoura.. Rent a bike up there and be amazed at the tracks they gave cut through the forests... I think you'll like it!!!

    Marty.

Running! It'll definitely fill up the time, there are loads of events on locally, and as long as you avoid injuries (perhaps easier said than done!) you'll feel much better!

You could always try airsoft. There are two playing fileds in Limerick and one in broadford if Im not mistaken. two shops that sell equipment in Limerick also.

I only collect them myself Bullets here plays and would have more info than myself.

Great to keep in shape, far more realistic than paintball and hopelessly addictive.

Or if airsoft ain't your thing, you could try finding a tag rugby team to play with. Check out tagrugby.ie they will find you a team to play in for the summer league. There is an autumn winter and spring league too. They are played in UL while the summer league is played in Old Crescent. That's where the annual pig n porter event is on too

I used to do Historical Fencing (more traditional than sports fencing)
a few years back, as far as I know there are some folks still out in UL that
    practice both sports and historical.
Dunno if the lads I used to train with are still active:
Neville Gawley was the name of the chap who used to train me:
    http://www.skynet.ie/~nvl/lsa/

Archery. UL archery society is open to both students and non-students for
20-30 Euro per year you can turn up twice a week and shoot for free.
I bought a bow and was mad keen on learning but I got too lazy to go travel
their after work, and it was a little tooooo studenty for older types.

Also there is field archery but again not sure how active
    they at present:

Clay Pigeon Shooting. A few places around Limerick. Eddie Daly's
in Rathkeale is not too far away and there is Rosemount shooting grounds where you can get some lessons without needing to own a gun.
    20 Euro's per 50 Clays and 5-6 Euro's per box of Ammo (25 cartridges)

As mentioned Airsoft is different. It can be a hobby and a sport, I
love collecting the guns but I dont like the sporting/skirmishing element of it myself but my Mrs loves it. (so I get dragged along against my will every so often) Running about the countryside lugging a replica gun shooting people can be fun and you can get fit from it and its far less boring than running/walking to get fit. There is both an indoor and outdoor sites.

Paintballing there's combat zone, probably only good if you've
a bunch of people as as far as I know its not really the kind of place
where you turn up with your own gear:
    http://combatzonepaintballing.ie/

Hobbies I got a really really nerdy one if your artistic and like building stuff.
I make little model castles from casting plaster where I order silicone rubber molds from http://www.hirstarts.com/ its a hobby that's very unusual, cheap'ish and can take as little or as much time as you feel like.

Tango,(I shudder at the thoughts of it) seems to be getting popular in Limerick if your into dancing.

I dont have a URL but theres a group that fly radio controlled aircraft locally too.

There is a hacker space up and running now too where people
can share info about interests and hobbies:
    http://www.milklabs.ie/files/
    https://www.facebook.com/milklabs
    http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/MiLKlabs

A while back I noticed Wednesday evenings during the summer there used
to be a group that used to train in diving in the Shannon near the boat club.
Don't know the name of the group though.

Neville still does the historical fencing on a Tuesday night and is also the instructor for Limerick Tango also.

I might be completely off base here, but you did say it doesn't have to be sports related, so how about card-making?

I know a group that meets up once a month.

Does that interest you at all?

Bit of tribal drumming if you don't mind the hippy side of things! John does classes on a Wed night in the sports complex near Mary I from 7pm - I used to go regularly when it was in UL but now that's it across the city don't make it as often

It's a great way to let go of your inhibitions and can be great craic. Very varied mix of people there too from all walks of life. It's €10 for waged or €6 unwaged. Great unwind too.

    Bon chance
