That wasn't the craziest idea in the world at the time given his injury history.
Iirc there was a few on here that wouldn't have minded too much back then either.

And about 10 points from there now.

    100 million later.

    Henry had no choice.

Hope the appointment goes better than the new man at the Boston Red Sox.

He has been a disaster in the first month of major league baseball this year.

    Damn hard choice to make!

THe other thing to think of was that it is prob best for Kenny to leave now. Because in fairness you couldn't argue his love for the club, and if he kept going like he was he was heading straight for a heart attack.

Its funny because a mate text me the Dalglish news earlier and straight away suggested that he feels the Suarez incident could of swung it.

When an owner has to demand that a manager and player apologise for the players actions, you know that they are hanging on a thread . . Might not of been the only reason, but the way the owners intervened in that scenario suggests it certainly had some baring on the decision . .

I agreed with Kenny's handling of that.
His loyalty was to his player.
Evra is a big boy now.
Fergie took advantage and Kenny saw this.

It's doubtful given the work involved, but if the owners agreed to back him financially, it could be an oppurtunity to make him a Legend in the game. It could attract his ego.

Already pretty much a legend. No way he's going near a club like Liverpool.

I think he would look at the situation and not fancy the challenge. No CL this season, probably need a squad overhaul and look at the clubs around him.

Plus, he has unfinished business with Madrid.

They would be doing ridiculously well to get him.

they need to lose all this history, tradition, and 11th men crap if they are to go anywhere, only a few of the players would even make any top side in Europe.

they are no better than Everton at the moment tbh.

No I'm not. Martinez took over a team in League 1 with no real potential at the time. He introduced the passing style game that they are now being respected for. He won League 1 on his first attempt and continued to build with great cup performances. His work drew the attention of several clubs including Celtic and Wigan. He was ambitious and wanted to keep building at Swansea but they started to cash in on the players that were progressing under him. He leaves because of this. Sousa comes in and continues the style the Martinez has introduced and builds on it. In comes Brendan Rodgers afterwards and is there for the final step. He was lucky to have made the playoffs in the end last year after an abmissmal run of form. Only for other teams, including Cardiff to drop form allowed Swansea to secure a place.

Martinez went on to keep a struggling Wigan side in the premiership for 3 years.

To me, Martinez is a far better manager than Rodgers, he was the one who put the foundations down and the hard work that has got Swansea where they are. If he was left in charge, he would have been in the premiership with them before this year.

The vast majority of Swansea's Premiership players were signed after Martinez's exit. That can't be ignored. If Martinez or Sousa had been able to do the same they might be looking at the sort of rewards Rodgers has been too.

To suggest Martinez taught (directly or indirectly) Rodgers a philosophy of football would be silly. Of course it helped Rodgers that the previous managers had used a similar style of football for continuity, but Rodgers really put his own stamp on Swansea (that Martinez certainly has not achieved at Wigan) and signed the right players to be effective.

is the whole point in bringing in "squad" players not to improve the quality and depth of a squad????? Doesn't make them any less poor signings as they obviously did not improve the quality of the team or squad.

Aaaw, sorry if I appear to be like the guy who laughs at a funeral.

It's gas how this thread went from Kenny can do no wrong & it's all Hodgsons fault to "Kenny was useless anyway",he squandered 100 million quid and his claim to fame was beating Cardiff on pens in a cup Liverpool fans originally dubbed The Mickey Mouse Cup.

For 10 or 15 minutes in a big game to change it or more against weaker teams perhaps.

Not the same first team being picked and failing against both and nothing changing.

I reckon so, wouldn't know what way to take it if I was a United fan. He will only be there short term and if City kick on he might not even bring success in the short term and could leave the club in a bad state when he goes.

It's among the worst kept secrets in football. No idea why Liverpool supporters would expect Mourinho to drop to a barely top half side.

I'm unsure of whether it's a good thing or a bad thing.
They have played some excellent football this season.
he has had to cope with a declining and often absent, often abject, Steven Gerard. Carragher is gone. He had to rebuild the side.
Having to play almost all new signings most of the time hasn't helped. Ideally, you'd like to phase them in one or two at a time. He hasn't had this luxury.

However, the results have been turgid. They have scored less goals than a relegated team. Most of his signings have been a let down.-
Spending 35 million on Carroll while Newcastle have picked up 2 top class strikers for a song has highlighted that there is a major problem between recognising potential and recognising achievable potential.

He's won a cup and been sacked which seems harsh. But the team finished eighth. In truth, it may not be a bad time to go before he completely destroys his legacy.

Fergie didnt have to do anything, LFC and Kenny did all the damage to themselves and stopped short of blaming Evra just for being black as an excuse for what had happened! (how dare a black person take offence to being mockingly called negro by an opponent to rile them up!).

That said, foreign owners only care about what will enhance the image of the club top create revenue. The way the affair was managed (whether by PR team or manager) was awful and reflected poorly on the club (whether or not their fans were happy with how it was conducted or not).

Just a bit of fun feel free to chip in!!!

Andy Carroll: Hands the captaincy to himself in the player manager role, bags 20+ goals and a handful of assists. Fulfils potential. Thanks Andy Carroll, in particular, with the turnaround :D (also blames a night on the vodka for this moment of self criticism :)http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=73920049&postcount=76)

Mr Alan: Eternal optimist would see the bright side of all defeats and bring the feel-good factor back to Anfield. Solid top 6 finish ahead.

LuckyLloyd: Cup run specialist, emphasis on FA/Carling Cup domination. New trophy cabinet would be required, league position not entirely relevant if 4th place is gone.

opr: Senór Opr bring back the Spanish goatee spirit to Anfield, major push forward in the League and enjoy champions league success once more. Title contenders within 4 years.

Kess73: Brings the true Liverpool spirit back. Lobbies owners to reduce ticket prices for away games. Focuses on the old school pass n move style. Brings back the good times.

Willymunny: Privately phones King Kenny for tactical advice to ensure Liverpool mid-table mediocrity continues. Publically blames the mess he inherited from Kenny.
