1. What is your budget? [~€1000]

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming/HTPC/Internet] multiboxing wow/swtor; bf3;skyrim;future proof for at least a while. Going for overkill really.

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [No]

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I have a few older pcs around the house. Storage is not an issue so I do not need big HDDs or cd/dvd.

5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes&No] monitor suggestions are a plus but not constrained into the budget really. Nothing too crazy!

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [24'/27'] Been reading the Yamakasi Catleap thread with great interest

6. Do you need any peripherals? [no] have most, if not all lined up already.

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [No] not really interested unless it ridiculously easy and worth it.

8. How can you pay? [Any]

9. When are you purchasing? [In 60 daysWithin the next couple of weeks] I've been saying i will do this for the past year. I have finally put a hard time onto this.

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? [Have alot of previous build knowledge, just out of touch with current hardware levels]

you said you got enough storage, but i included an ssd as your boot drive. If you dont need it, then just drop SSD and upgrade gpu to 680/7970

catleap will be going ahead. This card would be able to handle that?
worthwhile going to 16gb ram?
the motherboard has some standard OC capability?

mobo will have ussual OC stuff, nothing too major, if you want more fancy board, then go for asrock extreme, i think its 40eu extra.

it depends what you want to use that catleap for? if you want to play reasonably well BF3, you will need 7970 or 680

if its only for gaming then 8gb is more then enough. 16gb is a total overkill and waste

small change of plans. I am getting "given" 2 24' monitors so will be holding off on the catleap for the time being.

The above still worth ~1k and be able to hold up for a yr or 2 and upgradable for more?

more then m8. solid build, but keep in mind that mobo is only good for single GPU setups. are you planing to go eyefinity later on with those monitors? if yes, then i would get a mobo with ability to go CF/SLI, because you will want to get more FPZ!!

then again, are you happy with 7870? i personally would drop SSD to 64gb ( you wont be putting steam on 128gb anyway, unless you want to fudge around with that trasfering thing, i foundthat i got 24gb free on my 64gb SSD and most of my games are steam supported, so i dont have much use for that 24gb) and get 7950? thats just me though, i would always take a route of better GPU.

the future would have cf/sli down the road. probably after the summer.
what board would i want to look at with this in mind?
and would dual 7870s work out?

I like having the larger ssd tbh.

7870 CF is now the best bang for your money compared to 7950/7970 CF setups. ( still on higher price though )

I work across the road from a maplin so I can pick up bits if needed. Pretty sure I have some anyways in a box downstairs. Thanks for reminding me though.

No, it's very unlikely. Different efficiency ratings for starters. I think the crystal (twilight) series were the modular counterparts of the amazon series but there wasn't really enough info on them at the time that they were around. Hardwareversand doesn't stock them anymore now so there's no need to worry about it. IMO, stick to amazon, golden greens and golden kings to be sure of good quality.

2 neat boxes. case/parts
my god but that heatsink is a pain to seat.
have all in but the gpu.
installing OS atm.
really happy so far.
