    Im posting this on behalf of a friend who doesn't have an account, she is interested in pursuing a career as a vet, but is worried about how high the points are, and she was wondering if she didn't get the points, and did General Science (DN200) would she be able go on to do a degree of some sort in Veterinary Science? Would it be a masters or degree or what? And would it be the same length as if she was coming from a non science related degree? She doesn't want to spend the guts of 8 or 9 years in college just because she missed out the first time round :L
    We're pretty clueless about this sort of stuff and the Careers teacher is less than helpful, so pardon our ignorance, any information would be great :o

    She could try and do grad entry vet medicine (which is 4 years). Doesn't really matter what degree you have for that though, though science helps with the GAMSAT.

    Doing a general science degree will only give the option of doing a 4 year graduate vet degree instead of 5, so it'll still be 8 years. Factor in also that the cost for Irish students to do the graduate course has rocketed recently thanks to cutbacks/need to make money, so it will be 4 years at €20,000per year. Its a daunting thought. Personally, if she's young enough and motivated enough, a repeat leaving cert is a cheaper and more viable option, as even with a degree and good gamsat score, there's no guarantee of getting in!
