Need to turn off water supply to upstairs cistern please advise

    If you are not working on the ball valve or the water supply to it you can swtich the water off by putting a length of timber over the cistern and tying the ball valve float arm up to it, I normally use a rubber luggage strap.

    You should have a valve on the water outlet from your header tank if fed from one. Turn it off, complete work and turn it back on.
