Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Found this on the interwebz

    http://globalrichlist.com/

Basically you put in your yearly earnings and it gives you an idea of what your rank is. Not sure how the calculate it but its kind of interesting.

Monetarily I am not too bad.
But I don't just measure rich by the amount in my bank account. I value the people in my life much more and in that aspect I am infinitely wealthy.

Jesus, I put down what I get from my Saturday job and I'm in the top 13% (804,433,299) in the world. That's quite sobering.

It is an aspect of the fact we forget how well off we are in this country in relation to the global population.

I have accrued enough in Savings/Value of investments to live for circa 10 years without any additional source of income.

But it wouldn't be a decade of champagne, caviar and charvet shirts though.

One year of collecting the dole at €188 a week put you in the top 12%.
There's a thought to stew over.

The salary from my last job had me in the 0.99% group.

I'm living off savings and college funding :(

Rich enough to go out twice a week so :D Yay student life!

Hmmm put in the small amount of funding I'm receiving, I'm in top 13.53% richest in the world.

Really puts things into perspective. I'll try not to complain anymore, I'm very fortunate.

    LOL

You could sell some of your racehorses and let some of the stable staff go.

I did that when I bought that Hockney piece. People don't realise how tough things are within that 1%:(

Think this is a bit out...
$8 could buy you 15 organic apples OR 25 fruit trees for farmers in Honduras to grow and sell fruit at their local market

    That's a lot for apples...

The BBC have something similar - compare your salary to your country's and the global average.

    I stuck in the dole €188 x 52 = €9776 and it says that it's in the top 12.82%

    crazy!

Think it's broke though. €115151551111555999988 and i'm still only the 107,565 richest person in the world!

    Top 10.75%

Bear in mind that there's a significant difference between nominal income (the amount you make) and real income (your purchasing power).
As in, if Bill makes twice as much money as Ted, but Ted lives in a country where prices are on average half as much as those in Bill's country, Bill and Ted make the same real income.

I'm the 273,982,609th highest earner in the world.

Of course in context they aren't factoring in house prices, childcare, cost of living etc. $8 wouldn't buy you 25 fruit trees in Ireland seeing as a fruit tree in our local garden centre is €25 for one. It's all relative!

My butler is still typing in my salary, 2 hours after he started. He is also quite the typist.

I'm going for a nap on my pterodactyl and mamoth fur bed. When I awake, I will ask my butler for the results. And by golly, I will have my team of in-house accountants verify the accuracy of this.

Biased survey designed to make you feel guily you're not hungry. I'm apparently rich although I have a hole in my shoes and no money to buy a new pair. But I suppose I'm rich because I have shoes.

I am the 55,015,977 richest person in the world, yet I can barely afford a holiday or to pay my credit card bills and I am still driving a four year old car that is valued under

£5,069.48 (pound) is what I've lived off each year for the past 3 years and apparently I'm 107,565th richest person in the world.

I am in the top 0.001% richest people in the world.

    O.o

Edit: Oh right, it doesn't take kindly to decimal points.

843,708,281 top 14% aww yeah dripping with money at 100 euros a week sheesh.

Just because you are close to the top that doesnt mean you're rich. A rich person has lots of money relative to the living costs of where they are. If you earned 30,000 euro a year and lived in somalia you could live like a king.

  • Registered Users Posts: 190 ✭✭Friel

If I'm in the top 9.62% richest people in the world, the other 90.38% must be living off eating what falls outta their ass.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,137 ✭✭✭44leto

There is 50 or so million richer people then me on this planet, I hate every last one of them.

I think anyone with in that 50 million should pay a 50% wealth tax.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,643 ✭✭✭Luap

I'm so poor - I'm actually jealous of homeless people with cups of change. Seriously.

Presumably, they have nothing. But me - I have debt. Lots and lots of debt. If I worked full-time and took my entire salary and used it to pay off my debt - it would take 10 years to repay it.

Since I need a place to live and food - and I have to pay interest; I'll be poor for the next 30 years.
