Just wondering if anyone commutes from Gort into Galway or even Oranmore? Is it a reasonable commute or would you say its too far and takes too long?

I am sure there are a lot of people commuting to Galway from Gort. It probably takes approx 30 min to go from Gort to the Galway Clinic roundabout (10 min less to Oranmore). The roads are not too bad (though deteriorating lately). After that, it really depends on where in Galway you are going to ...
    Hope this helps.

It really depends on where in Galway - east side v west side can be a big difference.

There are train (much better from Athenry, Oranmore station hasn't opened yet) and bus options.

    Thanks Valarie,

I wonder are the three villages an issue? Clarinbridge, Kilcolgan and whatisname? I fear sitting traffic for ages trying to get through these, are they bottlenecks?

Again, it depends on the time at which you drive through. Ardrahan and Kilcolgan are fine. Clarinbridge might back up a little in the morning (esp at school starting time) and more in the evening coming back from Galway.
The rest of the traffic starts backing up after the Galway Clinic (either the dual carriageway going through Briarhill, or Doughiska or by the GMIT) after 8am but it still moves (slowly). I am not sure when it starts clearing up.
In the evening, again, it depends when you are planning to commute but the biggest bottleneck is in Clarinbridge. It doesn't however seem to be systematic.
    Hope it helps.

on average the bus @ 7:50am from gort gets you into GMIT approx 8:40am, the bus is just as quick as driving cause they use the bus lanes!

I think Gort is a handy commute to Galway.

Not being from there originally it just suited me to live there, depends on your situation really.
