Getting from Stranmillis University to Belfast City Airport

A friend of mine has a job interview in Stranmillis University the week after next (Friday, April 13th). We were intending to fly to England for the weekend from Dublin but that has now had to change due to this interview. As a secondary option we found a flight that leaves Belfast City airport at 17:15 that day. With the interview at 2:00 hopefully unlikely to last longer than 90 minutes there should be plenty of time to get to the airport. Unfortunately having never been to Belfast I'm just guessing :o.So, does anyone know what the Friday afternoon traffic is like in Belfast and assuming he gets a taxi, can anyone recommend a particular firm?

City airport is very handy, Short Taxi ride <10 mins

Traffic will be leaving city at that time so opposite to you. Even if it's heavy there are several back streets drivers will know around traffic to the airport. It shouldnt cost more than £5.

Maybe book a cab that morning for your run to airport. Ask them to call you when it arrives. Fona cab on 028 9033 3333

Heh we were quoted £10 by one firm last night but I suppose they did say it was a ballpark figure. That's good to know about the direction of traffic.

to be fair a tenner sounds more like the price, but it'd not be much more.

If your friend was in an energetic mood, they could walk the 15/ 20mins to Botanic station and get a train out to the Sydenham stop by the airport which would only cost 1.70 and theres a shuttle bus then to bring you to the door of the airport. Trains run every half hour.

The walk itsself would be nice as you can go along the Lagan to the back of the Botanic Gardens, stroll through the park and then you are almost at the station.

Or just walk up the stranmillis road to Queens, wander through the main building/ the quad to Botanic avenue and then you are 5 min from the Botanic station. Also a nice walk and a nice sampler of student life in the area with the shops and cafes along stranmilis road.

Thanks folks, it sounds like it's manageable. We were just worried about it ending up like trying to travel from West to East across Galway city around 5PM on a Friday. In other words if you're unlucky it could take an hour to travel about seven miles.

Soon as the interview ends get a taxi to the airport. You will want to be checked in by 4.15. In that direction at that time traffic is light. It will only start to get busy after 4, and much closer to 5.
If the taxi fare is £10 that is cheap and worth it. Taxi journey will be 15 mins tops. Public transport to the airport will be a PITA and take much longer.
While your friend is doing the interview you can chill on Stranmillis or kill some time in the wonderful Ulster Museum.

Thanks for the advice. I won't be in Belfast myself though. That'll have to wait for another time.
