    New PB for Mark Kenneally over 10,000m in the Netherlands tonight. He ran 28:33.12mins, knocking 11 seconds off his previous best time. It's also a qualifying standard for the Europeans in Helsinki next month. With him going to the Olympics to run the marathon would Helsinki be a good indicator to see what form he is in (although tonight's run tells us he's in the shape of his life).

    Not sure if it was mentioned or not but Deirdre Ryan jumped 1.83m to come second for DSD at the European Club Champs. Claire Bergin ran 55 for 400, though I suspect that was due to taking part in the 4x1 and 4x4 also. DSD finished 6th overall, keeping Ireland's place in the top division.

    News of a niggle for Gillick, and the women's 4x400 relay running on Sunday

    maybe a further improvement from J Barr?

    Jessie was supposed to be part of the 4x400 team in Poland this weekend but has had to pull out because of a calf strain. It shouldn't keep her off the track for long though.

    Line up for for 4x400m relay on Sunday
    http://www.eaf.bydgoszcz.pl/pliki/lssz.pdf

    Portugal inside, Belgium and Poland inside

    Current tankings here;

    At the moment we've 7 seconds on Belgium. Portugal and Poland aren't ranked in top 20

    I'm very concerned for Gillick. Qualification deadline is in 5 weeks. He doesn't have much time.

    Colvert 20.69 (faster than Hession)

    Thomas Barr 50.80

    They're probably the pick of results from Geneva

    Two great windy results from Amy Foster and Jason Smyth in Florida. 11.32 and 10.17 respectively, which would both be national records with legal winds.

    Justine Kinney won her section of the 400mh in 57.31, which is just outside her PB of 57.13 and a B qualifier for Helsinki.

    Hession finally under 21 seconds for 200m also, with 20.76. Colvert still the Irish no.1 this season, though.

    I wouldnt read to much into pulling out with a niggle, time to worry would be in 2-3 weeks time if he still has it. Fingers crossed its only a couple of days.

    That's slightly quicker than the second scoring of the 2 aggregate times for the relay rankings so that helps a little in terms of London 2012 qualification. They remain 12th in the rankings but their accumulative time is now a little better. One more sub 3:28/29min run should seal their Olympic spot and Helsinki Euro Champs will be the perfect opportunity.

    New PB of 16:19 for Sarah McCormack (Clonliffe and Moorfoot) when winning Scottish championships over the weekend. This is a 20 seconds improvement.

    Derval ran 13.47 in Switzerland. That's a very slow season opener it has to be said.

    Also check this out:

    Finally, Eamonn Coghlan is no longer the only man over the age of 40 to run a sub-four minute mile: Britain’s Anthony Whiteman clocked 3:58.79 in Nashville, to become the first over 40-athlete to run the sub-four outdoors, although Coghlan is still the world record holder with his 3:58.15, set indoors in Boston in 1993.

    Apparently weather conditions were very bad during the race, with rain not conducive to fast sprinting. Expect that time to be knocked down a lot in her next race.

    Updated relay rankings. ireland still in 12th place with the run in Poland on Sunday helping lower our time. At this stage its really only the European Championships that can deny us our place.

    We have a slight cushion over these European nations (cushion is over two races);
    France 1.06s
    Turkey 1.45s
    Poland 6.59s (outside top 16)
    Belgium 7.49s (outside top 16)

    We're also ahead of Canada, Brazil. Colombia and Australia. South Africa race at the African championshisp (same time as euros and could sneak in too)

    If we get close to the NR set in last year's World Championships we should be OK. That might get us through to the final. If it does, we'd be almost guarenteed a spot in London.

    Jessie Barr won the B-race in Oslo 400m Hurdles in time of 56.73secs. She'll be a little dissappointed not to go close to low 56s/high 55s I suspect but there's still more chances for her to improve on her PB before London deadline.

    They must have swapped places, originally Kevin was in the 400m and Jonathon the 200m. They're both very versatile between the two distances.

    Florida State won mens 4 by 400

    The anchor for Oregon Duck ran an intelligent 400 to win the womens 4 by 400m. She was a good 12 metres off the lead, and the leader was cruising the first 250m hoping that the Oregon runner would blast after her. The Oregon runner kept it under control for 300m and then opened up in the last 100m to win.

    Saw that race. You could say it was suicidal tactics, but fair play to her for giving it a shot. Better than sitting in a pack doing nothing and then getting blown out of it. She has the A-Standard anyway so good on her for giving it a go.
