    West is southbound
    East is northbound

How do these people not know the points of a compass?

Ah cheer up. This is good news.

This feels like it was lifted from a Fr. Ted script
These are small... but the ones out there are far away. Small... far away...

Think its down to the road being Dublin-Limerick and therefore being East-West rather than the orientation of the road at any specific section...

Well technically the motorway runs roughly East Northeast/West Southwest, so the contractor is closer than the TII definition of Northbound and Southbound.

Limerick is SW of Dublin. Galway is West of Dublin. Wexford is South of Dublin. Belfast is North of Dublin. Liverpool is East of Dublin.

Each motorway has a direction, which it doesn't universally follow, for the purposes of signage. The M7 is west/eastbound.

There are some obvious anomoloies, such as on the N18 Limerick SRR going east/west east of the tunnel which is signed north/south. Though unsigned, going north in the Dublin Port Tunnel you are on the M50 southbound. The M20 near Limerick is also signed E/W but south of the N21 junction it's N/S.

All I can say is that we will have to rethink the compass they use if we ever get a Dublin ring road. Many have been confused coming off the N7 and wanting to go to DL on the M50, do they go North or South to go East?

Probably best to go with A/B carriageways or clockwise/anti clockwise at that stage.

This will be an issue sooner rather than later with the South Port extension, going from the South Port to the North Port via the M50 southbound would be a bit much.

    I'm surprised the M50 hasn't adopted an M25 like Clockwise/Anticlockwise already.

However to return to the Motorway under discussion, yes its technically a NE/SW motorway but The predominant direction would be from the East of Ireland to the West of Ireland, and for simplicity of use the Carriageways are therefore westbound and eastbound. Just as I would expect the M8 to predominate as Northbound and Southbound even though it does trend North-East to South-West as it goes.

Returning entirely to the topic at hand, great to see the mainline getting into the final stretches. Complaints should drop off entirely once thats done and we can focus on nice pictures of the Sallins bypass works :D

Why just not say "Towards Dublin" or "Leaving Dublin", I'm sure everyone would understand that.

Yeah it’s the City Bound Carriageway that will be 3 lanes on the 16th.

How does that work for Newlands Cross to Dunlaoghaire or Malahide or even Dundrum?

Those locations are already within Dublin, It's the M7 outside Dublin that I was referring to.

Has anyone recent updated photos of this project, is the interchange beside Kerry foods building completed yet?

When is the construction, testing commissioning due to be completed before handing over to Kildare Co Co.?

Wasn't junctions 10 to 8 always 3 lanes anyway? So they're just restoring what we already had.

No that was just junction 9 to 8 which is quite short. 9-10 is substantially longer

Kerry bridge not completed. Deck laid. Formwork to contain road onto bridge on northside in progress. Southside connection onto bridge not started.

Sallins bypass: not a whole lot going on recently from casual drive bys. All vertical posts for all bridges complete.

New J10: actually a lot of the new roundabouts / on / off ramps surfaced at this stage. Some bits of roundabouts now live.

Just a note to let people know that three lanes will be open from Naas south, junction 10 northbound (towards Dublin) from Monday next.

Then three lanes south bound through to junction 10, Naas south, will open Monday 24th.

Speed limit will change to 80kph as tidying up works will continue.

80 is a lot more reasonable. Better late than never I suppose

Will be hard to tell the impact though as the schools are finishing around the same time so should be quieter anyway

But hopefully fully finished before they come back. So, while we may all suffer from future bouts of PTSD I do think the worst is over... And we'll all be back home before Christmas. :D

They were working between the Naas North-Naas South exit last night post 8 PM and I went for a run by the Canal this morning at 8.30 and I could see crews working again so, they are taking it seriously and may be in position to open this strip fairly soon

39 hours and 50 minutes before the 3 lanes from Naas south to Naas north will be open.

How long does it usually take to get from Naas to the Red Cow around 8 in the morning?

About half an hour, would hopefully be less around this time of year though with fewer cars on the road/better weather conditions.

Does anyone know what the final speed limit will be on the M7 when this work finishes? Will it be 120kph (as it should be) or 100kph like the M50?
