Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well, I didn't read the threads already open, so might have been asked already.

Today = Good Friday, did you stick with the Catholic tradition of abstaining from meat and tuck into a piece of salmon? Or no? :)

    Did/would you eat meat/chicken today? 66 votes

I'm a practicing Catholic & wouldn't eat meat on Good Friday

I'll tell the priest/God at confession on Sunday and it'll all be grand. That's how it works isn't it?

Aw man, another one of these threads! It's an obsession!

Anyway, we should just be turning them into fellatio/cunnilingus punfests IMO - far more fun.

I actually had fish today, but for all the right reasons :pac:

I'm crap at making polls! :(

As an aside: I'm 'Catholic' on paper, but I don't go to Mass and such. I do teach Religion though but that's beside the point. I ate chicken & beef today and got harassed by my sister. I questioned her as to when the last time she was at Mass/what did she give up for Lent etc, as I'm baffled as to how people who don't follow Catholic/Christian methods in other ways follow the 'No meat on Good Friday/Ash Wednesday' rule - what's the point? :/

i dont go to mass but i didn't eat meat

As a conscious decision or just didn't happen to eat meat today??

I'm just wondering why a non practicing Catholic would bother abstaining on Good Friday - my sister's comment was 'Oh you think you could manage one day [okay 2] in the year where you just don't eat meat', but, why bother?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 76 ✭✭Declan Lander

    Strange thread and responses.
Why on earth would non Catholics, or ex Catholics be bothered about eating meat today ?
The no meat rule is for Catholics only.
I don't sweat it about pork either, but then again I'm not Jewish or Muslim.

had 3 of the big 4 meats already today (beef, pork & chicken, the 4th being lamb), might head down the chippers now for a kebab, complete the grand slam.

I wasn't going to, but then I remembered the day that was in it and dug out a nice lump of ham, just so I could annoy those "fasting".

Why would it annoy them ?
It only applies to current Catholics.

Yeah, and I'm interested to see the Catholics responses......

I got naked, drenched myself in pigs blood, and ran up and down the street with scarf made out of strips of raw steak screaming 'I AIN'T GOT NO BEEF WITH THE CATHOLIC CHURCH - I JUST WANNA EAT MEAT'.

Fish and mashed potatoes. Yummers (I love fish).

I'm vegan but today since I'm also a militant atheist I chased down a wild deer, strangled it with my bare hands and ate its heart as its life blood trickled away into the earth.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭keano_afc

Yes, I had a Big Al's quarter pounder. Was delicious.

For the record, I'm a Christian. I know, I don't belong in after hours coz I have a belief that a lot here don't share. There is no reason, biblical or otherwise, to forsake tasty meat today.
