Anyone any experience with payment plans for university education or similar?

I want to go to either ucd or trinity this september, i doubt i'll be able to avail of free fees and i don't have enough cash to pay first year fees upfront. Anyone any experience with going to either institution and asking for a payment plan or advise on scholarships/anything to help my situation?
