Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ian Woan

    nottingham-forest-ian-woan-46-merlin-premier-league-1996-football-trading-card-5657-p.jpg

Ian Woan was awesome, and so is this tribute -
If we could clone Ian Woan

If we could clone Ian Woan,
There'd be nothing else we'd need,
Not a weakness on the pitch,
    Entertainment guaranteed.

    Ian, you play centre back,
    Woany you're in goal,
Should we play with 2 up top?
Or stick Ian in the hole?

If we could clone Ian Woan,
What a team we would be,
A 3-1 win, away from home,
    And Ian's grabbed all three.

    Ian Woan from full back,
Up the line to forward Woan,
Woan then sticks it in the box,
    And Ian heads it home.

If we could clone Ian Woan,
No team could ask for more,
    Better than United in '99,
    Or Arsenal in '04.

After the ref has blown for full time,
And the players are heading home,
    Each opposition player's happy,
He's swapped shirts with Ian Woan.

    Stig Inge Byornebye.

I think I got 16 Stig premier league stickers circa 96' before I got 1 Cantona. The guy haunted me that year. You couldn't swap him in the school yard either as everyone had him multiple times.

That lad Zola signed for West Ham a few seasons back. I think he cost 10 million or something, played about two games and went back to Italy. Savio

Lauren Robert. Scored some crackers for Newcastle. Think he went to Pompey after that.
Egil Ostenstad. Striker for Forest. Actually showed up as a question on Question of Sport the other week.
Paul Stalteri. Spurs winger. Scored a cracker against the Gooners I think
Felipe Caicedo. Heavyweight boxer and erstwhile City striker.
Jo. Shortest name in the history of the Premiership?

Don't remember him at Forest - for me he'll always be the guy who scored a hat-trick for Southampton against Man U 6 - 3 happy days :)

Andrea Silenzi (Forest) - First Italian to play in the EPL

Hard to forget that useless lump. The worst player by some distance to ever done the red of Forest. Was signed as Stan Collymore's replacement. Yet, didn't even resemble a footballer, nevermind an Italian one who had netted 17 Serie A goals for Torino in 1993-94 season. He was so bad that Frank Clark loaned him out to Regina in August of 96, and when Silenzi refused to return to Nottingham at the end of the loan spell, Forest simply cancelled his contract and cut their losses, all 4 million of them between transfer fee and wages. I swear to god, just watching him run around the field was bizarre. His gait resembled that of a county council worker.

You are correct, Ostentadt never played for Forest. He played only for Southampton and Blackburn in England. I think castletownman may be confusing him with another Norwegian, Lars Bohinen, who played for Forest between 93 and 95. He also like Ostentadt, jumped ship for Blackburn.

Yes - couldn't think of Morientes!
    Dean Saunders.
    Robbie Keane.

Other marksmen who failed to find the mark.

He didn't go to Liverpool but all of those were an awful lot better than Stephane Guivarch. How did he receive money to play football ?

Lol at Silenzi comments :D He was Shiiiittttte!!!

Kaba Diawara was the first big lump Arsenal bought from Bordeaux. To be fair he had umpteen chances. i cant help feeling it just wouldnt go in for him and it might have been so different if one had. the chances he had in that game alone vs leeds back in may 1999.. 6 months just wasnt long enough but he amounted to little afterwards in fairness.

Julio Baptista amazingly got 4 against Liverpool and 2 vs Spurs in the Carling cup but even Diawara looked like Pele in comparison his technique was so bad

Fernando Nelson for Villa. Wasnt the worst player but didnt play much in the months before he left.

Probably already mentioned but Ian Woan had some left foot, anyone who remembers Sky early football will surely remember 'Ian Woan makes them moan' when he scored, I think, against Newcastle.

George Donis for Blackburn, was supposedly the 'fastest player in Europe' when he joined. Think he only scored twice for them and played with Sheffield United after for a while.

Here's one I had forgotten about until the other day, Andres D'Allesandro.

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRVKiNMubtjNyzIeHFss3llG1S_UJsQWLQrUtPlQ8d1MoJzkbizPgHp2UBv

Only played for 6 months with Portsmouth the end of the 05/06 season and if I remember correctly he saved Pompey from relegation almost single handedly with his inventiveness and brilliant play from March onwards.

Also scored an unreal goal during his time there vs Charlton.

    Mark Bosnich

Played for Man United, Aston Villa and Chelsea with over 200 league appearances between them.

He also suffered from a severe cocaine addiction, declared bankruptcy in 2008, was fined by the FA for doing nazi salutes to Jewish Spurs fans, and married and divorced a woman purely to get back into Britain following complications with his visa.

    Some man.
