    Hopefully this results in some convictions for those arrested.

    Off topic again; the stats speak for themselves. Time and time again court reports tell of lifetime criminal with dozens of previous convictions - the deterrent is obviously not working for them.
    Nobody has to take a film crew to San Quentin to verify that - check out today's Indo for one hatchet-wielding gentleman from a nomadic culture;

    The court was told that Michael James had 97 previous convictions and had spent half of his life in jail.

    Ninety bleedin' seven!

    I never said they enjoyed doing prison time, no one likes their liberty being taken away, but its not a difficult prospect and its not a deterrent.

    Your opinion differs to the lads I know who have been there.

    Are they re-offenders ?

    and its not opinion, its based on daily articles in every paper everyday of the week. You can pick out 10 or so cases if you looked.

    Some are re offenders, a fair few did one spell over a decade ago and they have as much chance of seeing prison again as you or I. Once you are involved in certain circles and owe money or require to maintain a stream of it coming in the reality is that getting out of crime is very difficult. Due to what people know its preferable for the folks calling the shots to have them entangled so wandering off isn't easy. The motive is often not in the paper, fair enough, local shop held up its quite likely an addict, local bank held up isn't as straight forward. For many jail is worse place to be if you owe money for example. Also many of the strangely small or suspended sentences you read about are often due to folks singing, why sing if prison isn't so bad?
