Yes, when they faint, they 'die', ie you aren't allowed to use them ever again. You are only allowed to catch one pokemon per route, the first one you see, you do what you want with it, after it you aren't allowed catch any others on that route. So its make do with what you have!

Theres the full list of rules, but you can of course adjust to your own taste - its more fun to follow it strictly though.

Its a nice break from traditional playing, I recommend it fully if you are ever bored of just playing normally.

I downloaded an illegal copy of the sims 3... knew I'd play it for like a week and then forget about it, it just wasn't worth the money :L

I go through random phases of just playing it, and then not playing it for months.

That's how I've always been with the sims, it's like they start off in poverty, unemployed and living in a field, then I make them prosperous, they have loads of money and a nice house and then there's not much left to do, so I stop playing it...then start again in about 6 months.

I do the same I can spend everyday playing then stop and go back to it. I always tend to make the families happy and won't let them die and spend so much time making them reach the top career and get married and stuff lol. I need to be more experimental.

One time I played through about 5 generations of a family in the sims 2, I just don't have that kind of commitment anymore. I think the sims would be better if they gave you better goals to work towards, they've started that with the sims 3 but they could improve it.

I found an interesting idea online a few years back, very interesting if you're feeling experimental. You get a Sim and stick him in a house with 7 other Sims of the opposite gender (or the same gender, if that's your thing ). You don't interrupt any socialising at all and at the end of each day you do a certain action. I forget the exact sequence but it was something like:

End of Day 1: Your Sim tries to flirt with every other Sim.
End of Day 2: Your Sim tries to kiss every other Sim.
etc.

At the end of each day, you kick out the Sim your Sim likes the least. At the end, you're left with your Sim and the one they like the most.

It's a fun way of finding your Sim a partner.
