Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

i know it isn't top of the range stuff, but...

lately tesco's have had a blue simoniz car care bucket in for €7.

    a sponge
    a pack of glass wipes
a bottle of wash and wax
    an aerosol of tyre shine
    a packet of dashboard wipes
    and an air freshner

any one of those items off the shelf (bar the sponge and air freshner) in tesco costs more than €7 so to get all that stuff and change from a tenner is great i think, if your just starting out or on a recessionary car care budget.

the 2L bottles of demon shine and carplan wash and wax are also still €1.22

Have anyone used the Demon shine? I've bottles of it out in the shed and I'm tempted to try it as the car needs a wax now anyway, so I wouldn't be doing any harm.

oh your talking to demon shines number one fan here, literally have about ten liters of it in the garage from when the price dropped :)

its just a glorified detailing spray really.

but, if your using it after a wash theres 2 main ways -

when the car is still wet, just mist it over the whole car, then just get the open end of the hose and run it over the car again and the water just "sheets" right off it, theres a bit of a trick to it though, you probably wont get it perfect first time.

otherwise, mist it onto the still wet car and then dry it with a microfiber towel (has to be pretty big, and keep wringing it out) probably gives better results but is a bit more tedious.

also great for dusting the car when it doesn't need a full wash etc.

jaysus i'm addicted to it, i nearly drink it. :pac:

Picked up the mitts in aldi tonight, also they have an alloy cleaning kit. Will try it in the morning and see what it's like.

It comes with 2 brushes, so for €3.49 even if it's rubbish the brushes are worth that.

Picked up another 2 as well :P a Red and Grey one this time :pac:

The alloy wheel kit isn't bad but make sure your wheels aren't flaking as it can peel paint and whatever you do don't get on your hands!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,478 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The wheel cleaner is surprisingly good, just you really have to rinse the stuff off afterwards.

Jasus, 3.50 ? I gave halfords nearly €12 just for a brush last week.

That alloy wheeling cleaning kit is rubbish. The brush disintegrated on me when I used it. The actual product is piss poor too. Use wonder wheels instead and buy a quality wheel cleaning brush.

My cousin is actually meant to be giving me a fiver for it! It smells mighty decent.

They have 2l pressurised containers fir 4€ in aldi... For gardening really.
Handy for applying stuff or misting water if claying I guess... Could use it for many uses.
Has an adjustable jet so can adjust from a fine mist or a direct spray about 20 feet.

What I'll be using it for is applying bobby dazzler to my camper van.

    Worth a punt.
    Marty.

Could be handy for misting on demon shine! Might get one for the craic.

I can't verify the good part but aldi might still have some in from a few weeks back if you check your local one.

    And on that note..

Aldi have 2L pressure sprayers in for €3.99

    Pressure_Sprayer_KB_1007.jpg

Should be good for use with wheel cleaner, degreaser, that sort of stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,522 ✭✭✭martyc5674

Handheld vacs in Lidl ennis road limerick for 12.99 this eve, and im fairly sure its the same one i bought years ago there and worked quite well.

Bought that sprayer above today...decent yoke.:)

Careful with strong chemicals in them, they burn through the plastic of the sprayer more often than not!

Most decent stuff can be diluted 10/20:1 and still be more than strong enough, but yeah I wouldn't chance putting large volumes of neat chemicals in there. But they seem good enough quality

I'd near put the AG Tar remover into it since it's in such crap bottle as is.My wheels ideally need to be taken off and de tarred inside as there's a really annoying lip behind them.

Re a wet and dry hoover for car seats, how does this look?

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-06489-1000W-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B005Z0VNLK/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1343223145&sr=8-3

Is it too small for the job or much the same as a lidl wet/dry hoover?

I got given about 1/2L of UPOL System 20 panel wipe / degreaser for free, which seems to eat tar for breakfast and should last ages too. Agree on the AG tar remover though, the bottle is cack

Not sure how good the hose brush is but I got it as I it was cheap and handy for the wheels...I've no intention of putting it near my paint!

Hose brush for car (Tesco) - €0.50
    Simonz Microfibre cloth - €0.56

I bought a one of these in Halfords the other week and have used it since. It's grand but is there any better ones out there that people use? Where can I get grit guards for my buckets? Thanks.

    Grit Guards?

You wont find them in the run of the mill shops...such as Halfords or even almost all Motor Factors!! Its a Detailing product, not your average car cleaning accessory.

3 for 2 on all car clean stuff in B&Q (limerick anyway... But I'm sure same everywhere)

They have a few Autoglym products and I had just bought some in halfords so I was armed with prices to compare, and B&Q were 3 and 4 euro cheaper for car autoglym shampoo, SRP and something else by autoglym I can't remember so waaay cheaper if u went for three items.

    Marty.

I promised myself I wouldn't buy more, but came across this in Halfords today.
    G9977EU_Alfa.jpg

On offer, end of line I presume. €18

    41j6bVOteoL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Triplewax Heavy Duty Car Shampoo. €2

I had my axa insurance disc, so I got 15% of both.

Considering the wax alone in the kit is 20.99, the mitt is 15.99, the car wash if it was still for sale was about the same as the wax. The cloth was 9.99 for three of them next to the kit, and those pads are about €8 for a pair, I think I made out well.

One more kit left in Limerick when I left.
