    Statistics please.

How many fatalities have occurred on Irish roads in the past three years as a result of cars crashing into signs?

I don't watch the news that often, but I certainly can't recall any such event ever!

Extremely wrong there pal... do your research. As a matter of interest what's your agenda or are you against spending any money full stop and letting the country go to ****?

the posts disintegrate, reducing the likelihood of death on impact.... a design criteria that unfortunately for some some families has come too late.

    comment on road signage projects!

Sorry but have you seen theses posts when knocked over?? They take a large chunk of cement with them causing more damage. I seen a women been hit buy said posts in dublin after been hit buy a truck......the truck wouldn't of it her ether.

Lets talk about a waste of money.......what was wrong with the parking on watergate street before they dug the whole place up and reduced parking...yes it looks nice but come on! Big bull in the middle of navan...again looks nice but how much was that again, a few trees around the town would of been a lot nicer.

Signs are a joke not only in Meath but around the country, signs blocking other signs, you break your neck trying to look at the signs blocked by the other signs!!!!

You are the one that mentioned it being too late for some bereaved families so you must have the facts. So lets see the figures.
I don't have the facts and I've said I don't remember any fatalities as a result of a motorist hitting a sign.

I don't have any agenda and where have I stated that anyone should stop spending money? The powers that be should stop WASTING money, therein lies the difference.

    Classic example from your previous post;
They don't want to mix signage with telecoms/esb property, results in complications with route maintenance/who owns what.
Pity about them that they don't want to mix signage. Simple thing like a phone call to ask "can I stick my sign on your pole" would sort that out. But no! That'd be too much like work or making a decision.

OP has a serious case of the dreaded doomy gloomys.
Whats wrong with having a few shrubs and flowers at roundabouts. It gives you something to look at while waiting for traffic to clear and it doesn't cost the earth. If you're this easily upset you must have a fair boring life.

Also the point of the bollards in Trim is to stop people parking on paths so they are doing thier job.

+1. Would rather the bollards than people parking all over the paths.

The unfortunate thing is that without all these bollards and signs etc., people just presume they can park/drive anywhere.

I don't have the facts and I've said I don't remember any fatalities as a result of a motorist hitting a sign.

    - Two in the last two years in the space of a few kilometers on the N81 near Tallaght.
    - Another last year in Carrigaline in Cork
    - In 2008 guy killed in Galway
    - And just last Sunday another person killed in Gort.

All these were from collisions with road signs. I found these within 1 or 2 minutes on Google. If you wanna keep searching go ahead because I'm sure there's a LOT more!

Pity about them that they don't want to mix signage. Simple thing like a phone call to ask "can I stick my sign on your pole" would sort that out. But no! That'd be too much like work or making a decision.

Anything on ESB poles/ Eircom poles is their property! It's a bit mad but I didn't make the rules I'm just telling you the facts. Anything else? You seem to be enjoying your rant

Agreed, or just teach people how to parallel park properly!

Yes I have! and its sounds like the posts you're talking about here are not the ones I described. The posts that break up on impact shatter above the foundation so there's never any issue with concrete flying about. You see them on motorways, they look like trusses, or square lattix shaped columns. Others look like normal posts but are made of thin walled plastic that breaks up when hit. What you've described is partly why these are being rolled out. Where speed limits are 60kph or less, these new posts are not being used however.

Again, one of the reasons for the NRA's many signage refurbishment contracts that are currently underway. Note that the NRA take responsibility for National Primary and Secondary roads and use private consulting firms to supervise these refurbishment contracts. Regional roads and Local roads are looked after by the Local Authorities who generally have no specialist knowledge of signage regulations.... they are more "jack of all trades" engineers.... and unfortunately as a result a lot of taxpayers money is being pumped into signage jobs that don't conform to standards and regulations.

The bollards on Emmett Street for example are alongside the designated parking bays and people don't park on the path in the marked bays. So if you park legally on Emmett Street and you are unlucky to have a passenger with you, chances are you'll end up with a dent in your door.

Grand when you have kids who can squeeze through the eye of a needle but not so great if you have elderly or infirm relatives who need to open the car door fully to get out.

Park somewhere else or get the bus> Think you're looking for something to complain about here.

Isn't that the whole point of this thread? Complaining about a waste of money....

But you aren't complaining about a waste of money. You're complaining about the positioning of bollards which you think are a waste of money.
