Quick tyre question

Was just checking what size tyres were on the car, and there is an odd one out. 3 of them are 215/55 16H/ 2 x P6000's on the back and a Hankook on the drivers front. On the passanger front though there is a falco (sp?) 205/55 16H.
All tyres appear to be in good condition and it just went through an NCT.

Is the 10mm difference something to address quickly or would it be negligable enough?

    Cheers Boards.

It is recommend that all tyres on the same axel should be the same size and have the same type thread. Open to correction here but it could be a NCT fail having different sizes on the same axel.

It is an nct fail alright.

    What's the spare like?

    Safety.
I'm not concerned about the NCT as its not due till may 2013. The tyre is good too, but if it's a safety thing I am going out and buying one.

    That's that so. Cheers.

Anyone recommend a tyre place for 215/55 16H thats neither a rip off or a ditch finder? :D

Try and match the hancook tyre on the same axle

    Good idea.
I am actually just wondering to myself how the tyre is sitting on an alloy that it is 10mm too small for

It's the width of the tyre. tyres are rubber anyway and will fit different width wheels.

Alloy is not too small. It can fit a whole range of tyres.

However when driving a tyres with different diameter on driving axle (assuming your car is FWD) you are forcing differential to excessive work, which might greatly shorten it's life.

The height is also different given that the height in a tyre 205-55R16 is a percentage of the width

Never thought of it that way. Yikes.

    11mm in diameter ish.

The size of a 215/55 is 215mm wide (tread) with a sidewall aspect ratio of 55 (55% of width), or 118.25mm, the 205/55 is 205mm wide and has a 112.75mm sidewall.

Not a huge difference, 11mm in height and around 1.7% in circumference, but enough to warrant a new tyre IMHO.
