Last frame or so have been sloppy by O'Sullivan's high standards, but Robertson looks lost. His break building has been almost non existent. This is a huge frame imo.

Really surprised at the performance from Robertson today, he has'nt tried to slow the pace down and knock O'Sullivan off his stride.
He can pot the balls as well as O'Sullivan does and has the safety to match, this match will begin to run away from him.
As i said 8-0 is a very big possibility today.

this is awful collapsing, its like hes the player of 5 or 7 years ago:mad:

Robertson is letting him back in... he's handing the table back to O'Sullivan after 10 or so points.

O'Sullivan isn't perfect, making mistakes for the sake of positional play, so is giving Robertson his chances. Only one or two per frame, mind.

That sums it up really, that O'Sullivan needs a couple of chances to win each frame and the fact that O'Sullivan needs a couple of chances and that Robertson is giving him these chances kind of sums up how they are both playing and to be honest it's not a great standard.

9-5 now and Robertson must win the last two frames.

Another frame for O'Sullivan, but what the heck was Robertson thinking that snooker on the black was just silly.

What a terrible shot he played to get himself snookered. He's truly ****ed now. He needs this frame or he can kiss the championship goodbye

Disappointing overall for a session that promised so much, it will take a massive improvement from Robertson to get back into this. fingers crossed.

Some good safety has given Robertson this chance, not beyond him to win this and the next and leave it at 9-7 going into tonight.

Big moment for Robertson, good chance to win the frame.

Edit :And just as I posted that, his break ended.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭zack01

Yes but it's the first time Robertson has played decent safety in this session. These are the frames he needs to win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

Key safety exchange this. So far Ronnie has been playing pretty good safeties when required.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭zack01

9-6 and finally Robertson plays some decent safety. This session could have been a lot better for him if he adopted this approach earlier. All frames are big in these championships but this last frame is vital for Robertson, a difference of two frames or four.

Some pot on the red to hit off the black. Important frame for Robertson.

9-7 O'Sullivan going into tonight and although O'Sullivan didn't play great this afternoon I feel he may have missed a trick, all 8 frames were there for the taking.
Robertson will be delighted to get out 2 behind.
    All to play for tonight

Was delighted Robertson won the last 2 frames. 10-6 behind and id give him no chance, at 9-7 he's got a glimmer. Still think Ronnie will canter over the winning line though.

I thought Ronnie was awful lucky this afternoon, it seemed every time he missed a shot or played a bad safety he left little or nothing on, and it was the opposite with Robertson. Poor from Ronnie in the last 2 frames though, he handed them on a plate to Robertson. That brown to the middle was ridiculous.

Was surprised at Robertsons pace at the start today too. He slowed down a lot near the end and you could see Ronnie gettin frustrated.

I hope Neil can prove me wrong and push him all the way, but that Ronnie wins, 13-12 :)

In the other match, im sure Carters experience will get him over the line, although ive been very impressed with Jones, and he's very unlucky to be behind.

I actually think O`sullivan is the best snooker player ever. Can play at a level that no one else can.

Ronnie's long balls have been godlike. He is playing the best snooker I've seen him play in years. Really think he can win the tournament now, though Ali might have something to say about that :P

    That break was sublime.

Shows why ronnie still is the biggest draw in snooker, and will be for a while.

C'mon the Rocket - get that fourth title

It's something else when when Robertson just got 2 shots in 2 frames!

I don't so either, but if Robertson slows the game down and breaks O'Sullivans momentum and frustrates him then anything is possible. Unlikely, but possible.

You could see Neil's heart in his throat when O'Sullivan potted that long red, and the relief on his face when Ronnie missed that black was amazing. I know it was early, but did anyone else think Ronnie was too focused on the maximum there?:D

O'Sullivan reminding me of his approach to Maquire when he only required one frame. Taking some high risk shots. Only two frames in it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,578 ✭✭✭✭Turtwig

13-10 O'Sullivan wins, looked like he just wanted to get out of there. Who knows what would have happened if Robertson frustrated him more and brought it back to 12-11. In any case, deserved win and he's got to be the favourite now to win the tournament now.

Carter v Jones, last few frames have been absolutely brilliant...... and that white, how did it not go in??

12-11 now to Carter. Jones should have been out of this a few frames ago but has put in an excellent comeback.

Robinson just seemed to run out of position nearly continuously and even his brilliant potting couldn't save him all the time.

I think he lost it in the afternoon. While I agree with zack01 in that Robinson took too long to make the frames tighter, I don't think Robinson had much control over that. Ronnie blew him away so much that Robinson couldn't rely on his safety. In the 12th to 14th frames he had chances to play good safety shots but his mind was gone, and that was down to Ronnie.

O'Sullivan vs. Carter would be the best test for both players and the championship IMO. Psychological warfare!

Anyone recall the time O'Sullivan and Carter met in the final. That year they both had to share the prize for 147s but O'Sullivan totally blitzed him and Carter was in tears towards the end of the match. I'm sure he would dearly love to clear up that record but with the form O'Sullivan's in and, although I didn't see the full game, Carter looked uncomfortable at times. I'd heavily fancy O'Sullivan vs Carter. It'd be Stevens I'd consider O'Sullivans banana skin. But perhaps I'm not giving Carter enough credit.

It's not Carter that you're not giving enough credit to but Maguire.I fully expect him to beat Carter. As much as I'd love to see Matthew Stevens win a World Title I can't see him troubling O'Sullivan too much.

Agreed, Maguire is the strongest player I've seen all week. Just got the job done and he's had a good year. As much as I'd like to see Ronnie win another world title, I don't think I'd like to bet against Maguire if they met in the final.

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭croker1

I think it will be an O'Sullivan vs Maguire final. I think Maguire goes under the radar a lot and people almost forget he's there! He goes about his business and sees off players! I think he'll see off Carter handy enough.

Or maybe im just biased because I cant stand Carter! I think he is such a sour loser. A touch of scumbag in him dare i say it!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭zack01

The problem with Maguire is that he's had a pretty easy path to the semi's, Brecel, Perry and especially Hendry hardly put him under any pressure and that is exactly what Carter will do. Maguire tends to buckle when under it, no doubting he is a great player and if gets a good lead he can be a very tough opponent, but he has'nt been behind in any matches yet and as i said i fully expect Carter to play good match snooker against him.

I fancy Carter to beat Maguire over the next three days.
