    Maybe someone from Galway can enlighten us, as we were having a discussion over in the Economy section.

    Did Galway people always have to pay for your bin services i.e. 20+ years ago?

    Someone from Galway said you did, but I doubt that.

    You are right. Retailers only started paying in the mid 90's.

    retailers only started paying a seperate commercial charge relating to paper/cardboard collection etc in the 90s, up till then it was the same as residential ie one bin service.

    Residential bin charges started in the mid 90`s.
