Hello all avid garden boardies, just wondering is compost or manure best for planting out shrubs in the garden. Many thanks in advance.

Both are very similar provided they are well rotted , they are equally good. It should break up very easily and generally look black.:D

Generally, and I mean generally, compost is slightly better than manure in that its N-P-K levels are generally higher.

    Compost - N=0.5 to 3.5; P=0.5 to 3; K= 1 to 5

    Manure - N=0.7 to 1.5; P=0.3 to 1; K=0.6 to 1

    For any newbies reading this

N = Nitrogen which provides plants with the ability to produce chlorophyll which allows plants to grow quickly

P = Phosphorous which helps root development and increases flowering

K = Potassium guards the plant against disease and aids in drought protection and cold tolerance. It also helps in improving root development and helps in the process of photosynthesis
