toyota awansis advice please.

    Hi folks, other car what i am looking at, is toyota avensis hatchback, 1.8 petrol, '98. any ideas about reliability?

    what to be aware when buying it ?

    They are hugely reliable.....but a 98 one is 14 years old, so its reliability at this stage depends entirely on how well it has been maintained up until now.


    If they have been poorly maintained then valve stem seals will wear leading to oil burning. Make sure you get to start it from cold to check for blue smoke. Other then that there could be numerous wear items, as with any car of that age.

    Thanks, not sure ill get chance see it running cold, but if that problem appears, than engine head off work ? ahhh... well .. not first car, not last engine head goes off and on ... :pac: im kinda used to do, most cars what i had, had to take engine heads off.

    If you have the right tools then you wouldn't have to remove the head.

    If you do have to remove it, they are a nice easy engine to work on.
