This one seems to be off the table. Girl in argos said its not saorview so not buying now. Disappointed...:(
Wouldnt take a girl in Argos's word for it.

As I asked earlier, what if the version in Argos is not the WXXU version?
Do ye think Iif I took it they would allow me to return if it didnt work without a set top saorview box?

Do you really need Saorview? I have it on my Sammy 59" plasma and I have never used it, bar making sure that it worked

I do, I don't have subscription channels you see.
Also, if you look at other TVs that they have marked as saorview, you will see under digital features it says "Saorview approved to work with the Irish digital signal.":

Argos UK were asked to provide the model # for this TV - it corresponds precisely with the details as provided on the Saorview site. If it's not the A3WXXU (the packaging will tell you this), you have a 7 day cooling off period under DSR and are entitled to full refund, less return costs:
    Q. What is the full model number please?

    A.Thank you for your question.

After looking into your query, I can confirm that the full model number of the Samsung E530 51 Inch Full HD Freeview HD Plasma TV is PS51E530A3WXXU.

Thank you for using Argos Q&A.

Under distance selling regulations, consumers are entitled to a cooling-off period of 7 days, which begins on the day that they receive the product. During the cooling-off period, the consumer can cancel distance contracts without giving a reason and without incurring charges or penalties other than possible charges incurred in returning the goods.

    I did Johnny.
Snakes caught me for €17.95 delivery charge when I went into the shop too so be prepared for that because it is home delivery only.
I am waiting on it to be delivered though so I hope to have it this week. I will let you know how saorview pans out once I have it hooked up.

Thanks for the reply and the heads up Irish. Looking forward to hearing about your experience as reviews have generally been pretty good for this tv so fingers crossed for both of us.

F*ck this thing is huge. Hadn't realised how big it would be as only seen it on the webpage. Its saorview alright, plug in the cable that runs to the aerial on the roof or portable aerial, select digital tuning, select air and let it off, it comes back with 17 channels or sometig which is all the radio too. Nice tv guide menu too, has a planner aswel so you can store lots of stuff to watch. Rte 2 hd is fantastic on it. Wobbly enough on the base though. Ifit wasnt for yamanato's investigative work, I wouldnt have bought it. Argos should fix their page.

    Cheers Irishproduce, just ordered one.

Update when you find some good calibration settings and any other pros/cons.

    How are the black levels?

Not sure quarryman, I know some people are into all the settings and what not/ black levels etc but I amn't to be honest.
I don't understand a lot of these things and tend to just plug and play.
If there are settings that make it better (which I imagine would be minimal) then sure let me know too.

Irish, glad to hear that you are happy with your purchase, I just ordered mine there and they told me I would be waiting a minimum of 3 weeks! How long were you waiting for yours and what part of this fine country are you located in?

Dont worry you get used to the size after a few weeks and you wonder how you ever watched a smaller tv like a 32 inch as they look tiny now.
Give it a few months and you may even think the 50 inch is too small.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,830 ✭✭✭irishproduce

I had it within 10 days although she said it could be up to 3 weeks.
    I am in Limerick guys

Just got my one yesterday and got it all set up, saorview all tuned in and working perfectly. Have to say, I am delighted with the purchase (Even if I am not the one who will getting all the benefits from it :)) I noticed one thing, the epg is an hour out, the time is correct on the tv but the epg shows programmes as being scheduled to start 1 hour later then they actually are, does anyone have any ideas? Just for clarity, Saorview is coming through the tv's internal tuner.
Once again, this is a great tv with awesome pq out of the box so it should only get better as the screen is broken in.
Added bonus, it plays mkv's directly from an external hard drive I had lying around :D:D:D
