I did this a while ago. Did a bit of a report on it which you can read here.

    Some brief feedback:
    1. Shipping isn't cheap or easy and you may well need to go through the north, meaning possible extra legs.
    2. Importing it yourself from there via article 7/PSNI permit is a pain in the hole. Get a dealer here to import it for you if it's coming in that way.
    3. It's worth it if you've a bit of a specialist interest (I have only left-handed rifles, so I've to work a bit to find guns I like) but if the only thing you get is to save a bit of money, it won't be as much as you think.

You looking for semis or o/u sxs? If you're looking for a double gun, I just use an AYA no. 4 myself. Some guns have less bias. I'd have Browning in mind when saying that. Always shot well with Brownings. If a semi, Benelli seems to be the predominant candidate there. I'd get a friendly dealer to order it in. know the pains of being a student and spending all your money on guns and shooting. I'm finishing in a month.

I see you're in Cavan- that'll make life easier.
My Brother in Law brought a .22lr CZ in from the 6 counties last year. It was Really, Really simple. He made a decent saving and got the gun he was looking for.

I bought a Ruger 10/22 off a guy selling it in one of the UK forums. Worked out easy enough to get it here. If all parties are OK to do it.

I sent 2 sterling bank draft's to the UK dealer, 1 for the man selling and the other for UK dealers cost to ship to NI dealer.
That way at least I knew that the seller had handed over the gun to the UK dealer, 'cos he had to go to the dealer to get his UK bankers draft cheque.
    1. UK seller takes the gun to a UK dealer.
    2. UK dealer ships to Northern Ireland dealer. No export license required and the UK dealer didn't want to get export license.
My dealer had a relationship with the NI dealer.
    3. NI dealer gets export license and ships to my dealer.
    4. I already had the sub license sorted by this time
    5. My dealer gets the gun and I collect it.
Total shipping and all fees was about €90 and took 'bout 3 weeks in total

Because if you wanted to drive up the North to view a gun you wouldn't have far to travel. If you wanted one sent from England and handled by a dealer in the North you would have an easier time going to talk to the dealer in person.

But who am I to give advice on a thread where someone is asking for advice.
I've only taken 2 guns in from England before and one from North to South and another South to North. I'll remember in the future to keep my experiences to myself.
