By the way what distance marathon are you thinking of running?

To be fair, in some countries marathon refers to almost any distance race from 3k and up.

I agree with RQ, a little harsh.

It's pretty pathetic really. So what if you think the op is lazy, the question is nonsense or it's just a wind up, leave it be and let it fall off the radar. Why bother getting involved ?

Here's a few Gems the OP has posted in a few other forums over the last 24hrs.

Yes. As I said people jumping on the bandwagon and trying to be funny. Chances are any one who claims they checked that before they replied is lying. The fact that this is the probably only the second(maybe third) reference to the ops other posts would back that up(one of them was me)

I checked his/her posts after my first couple of posts on the topic and my point still stood.

Sure plenty of people rip the piss on ART all the time, doesn't mean they're not being serious when they go to another forum.

Not the first time a newbie to ART has been jumped on for no real reason other than people acting the dick.

TBH The troll bells were ringing lodly so yes I did check his/her previous few posts.

My Answer may have been sarky but it actually did contain all the information the OP asked for.

Yes, I also referred to his posting history and did suggest in the event of it being a troll to ignore it. It would have dropped right off the front page rather than hang around the top all day.

They were in 'The Thunderdome' and 'After Hours', where the standards are different. The posts in 'Military' seem to be on the level

Don't believe a word. Most of the OP's recent posts are in after hours anyway, where it's the norm to be a troll. Other recent threads they'd posted in were pisstake threads as well. If you'd actually gone through their posting history you would see they're anything but a troll.

There was nothing helpful about your reply.

Anyway, this got boring about 3 pages ago and only has about 2 on topic replies.

Would you ever get down from your high horse. I'm not lying when I say I checked the nonsense previous posts before I originally replied- it only takes a couple of seconds to see the poster is a troll, and a pretty bad one at that. Surprized so many fell for this particular WUM, and are defending his rights as a newbie. If someone genuine comes onto this forum with a newbie question, they get a decent reply. Affording the same decency to garbled nonsense just adds to- well, the growing amount of garbled nonsense on these forums.

Contrary to popular belief, you are not allowed to troll or insult on AH. It looks to me that the OP only went to the thuderdome after being banned from AH.

It is also a requiremnet of boards.ie in general to use correct diction (no text speak etc) look at how the OP's grammar and spelling have miraculously improved in recent posts.

But yeah, fair enough. As I said I did actually answer the request with all the info he/she needs.

No they don't and thats my point really. Happens all the time were certain regulars just jump on the newbie and then they all circle around like rabid wolves. As I said in an earlier post, I wasn't convinced that it was a genuine thread.

Sure how would you know anyway? Aren't you only new here? :)

    No way any of us could possibly answer this, depends on a number of factors. Some of them being;
    Your running background.
What sort of training you're doing now.
What sort of times you post in other races/at other distances if you race at other distances.

Chances are it would be 4 hours +.

I have never ran a marathon i can run a mile and a half in 8.20 min. I do run often longest i have ever ran is 7 miles far short of the 26.2 to do. I am a fit person dont smoke and dont drink much if ever but i am willing to train for this so tips or good training methods would be great

Have a look here for beginners advice.

Start off slowly and follow a 5k or 10k plan.

If you want to build up to a marathon there are plenty of beginner plans out there.

Hal Higdon has a range of plans over a range of distances

    Best of luck with it

Slightly off topic but there was a very interesting article written yesterday about how people are using the likes of Twitter etc to ask simple questions rather than Google.

It’s from an American POV and was sparked after people took to Twitter to ask who a particular celebrity was following their death rather than a simple google.

In an Irish context, a lot of people go to Boards.ie.

..... and only has about 2 on topic replies.
Regarding the original question, it's really easy to do. Just enter the marathon of your choice, then go to www.mycharity.ie where you'll find an extensive list of charities to choose from. Pretty much every Irish charity is listed there. Here's an example of a fundraising drive I done last year. If you haven't a charity in mind yet, Down Syndrome Ireland would be only too delighted to accept your support :D
