    Not a rant
    but a genuine question

Does anybody have any idea how many Eastern Europeans are in Waterford?

Or any way in which I could research this?

    Thanks:)

    http://www.cso.ie/en/census/census2011reports/

Probably your best and most up to date resource. The one report available though is a general overview from what I can see. The 26th of April reports probably contain what you are after.

I think that there is still a strong population of eastern europeans around. I remember back between 05-09 there was a lot more. The Polish pub Da Vincis used always be buzzing full of them. Nice guys the majority of them, I worked with a lot of them while in college working in shops etc, some of them still around after settling down but alot returned to Poland to work on the buildings.

Knowing Part I Census 2011 results population of:
    - Ireland being 4 588 252
    - Waterford City at 46 132

    - Polish nationals in Ireland 122 585 (2.67%)
    - Lithuanian: 36 383 (0.79%)
    - Latvian: 20 593 (0.45%)
    - Romanian: 17 304 (0.38%)
    - Slovak: 10 801 (0.24%)
    - Hungarian: 8 034 (0.18%)
    - Czech: 5 451 (0.12%)
    - Russian: 3 896 (0.08%)
    - Ukrainian: 3 343 (0.07%)
    - Estonian: 2 560 (0.06%)

    You could roughly assume:

ca. 5% of Waterford City population (~2 320) is holding EE nationality
    - Polish: ~1,232
    - Lithuanian: ~363
    - Latvian: ~208
    - Romanian: ~175
    - Slovak: ~111
    - Hungarian: ~83
    - Czech: ~55
    - Russian: ~37
    - Ukrainian: ~32
    - Estonian: ~28

It will be interesting to see actual numbers, available Thursday week.
Numbers accurate for April 2011 snapshot.

Not allot really is it? I work in retail and while you could assume that half (if not more) of the staff would have been Eastern European say 6/7 years ago we currently only have one girl and her English is impeccable and half has a waterford accent so that barely counts.

I thought it would have been closer to 5000 than 1000. I dont know any polish guys that have gone home at all. If anything they have moved up the ranks and are really settled.

The 2,300 figure mentioned sounds about right.
