not quite. I got my pump top today (thanks Neillos!!)

gonna go with a 5.25" bay res and a D5. need to add some more compression fittings for the res and pump.

I'm also getting a few ml of copper sulfate which will kill anything in the loop for years to come, and the electronegativity means it shouldn't react with copper, nickel or anything else in the loop. it'll add to the silver coil and sterilized water.

Edit: ill order when the res comes back into stock.

You shouldn't need the copper sulphate on top of silver, especially if you've got such clean water to begin with.

I mention this because technically, EK's warranty (if you end up with any EK blocks) doesn't cover PT Nuke type stuff.

Are you going to use a pump bay res that fits the D5 in it? If so whats the point in getting the pump top?

    I'd assume he's not...

Your probably right but I taught I seen one a few pages back and dont have time in work to check that far back so I taught I would ask.

Yeah, I dunno myself either. Wouldn't make much sense though. At least with having a pump top he won't need a dual bay res, so that should keep things a bit smaller, etc.

Thanks I won't bother so. I'm just really worried about bio material inside my PC, and I can get most chemicals off my brother so I figured it'd be handy.

I've ordered 2 GT 1850rpm fans that I'll run at half speed. at least then I have redundancy if I need it. the rs240 is a VERY tight squeeze. the motherboard heatsink blocks it slightly, so the holes at the don't quite line up at one end. ill take pics when I'm home. I'm moving to a z77 extreme6, so it could get better, or worse :o

I also doubt that the phobya 200mm will fit up top at all, and the 200mm fan definitely doesn't fit under the shroud, so that's mostly out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

correct. I'm going single bay res and mounting the D5 on there floor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

I saw another guy's video on Youtube where he had a very thick looking Phobya rad (I think) mounted up the top. It wasn't in the fan hole mounts, but it looked like the mesh itself lined up, so you can bring the whole thing a bit more forward, away from the motherboard side. Might be something to try.

yea ill give it a go anyway.

im ordering when work decides to pay me. its been 6 weeks and their "payroll error" is getting in the way of me eating at this point.

I got onto swiftech about the specs of the thermal pads I need for the GPU water block, and their customer service is outstanding. little slow to reply to emails, but they're sending me a replacment kit free of charge, even though they know I bought it second hand.

also, my GPU block should be in the mail today!

how do you tell if you have air in a loop if the tubing is black?

If your using non see through tubing you would want to design your loop so having air in it, it will make sound as it passes a point otherwise it will be hard to detect it. You could also get a see through block which would help. I have mine flowing through the top of my res so its easier to get rid of air that is circulating.

Yeah, there isn't really an easy way. Just fill up your res, cycle pump, etc. and when you see the level dropping, fill it back up. Rinse (not literally) repeat until the level stays. It'll gradually drop to the point where you might have to fill it up again a good bit after a week or so, but that's normal.

Looking good! Planning to jam all that in a Storm Stryker, right?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,983 ✭✭✭Tea_Bag

    yep. spec in my sig.

I've actually asked them to cancel my order :o

ordered the wrong tubing (white, but its also UV blue.)

thought I'd throw up the loop here just to get a second opinion at the same time anyway.

there is no simple way to cancel orders on specialtech, so I emailed them but no reply yet.

Better off calling them, IMO. Better responses that way (at least for me).

Not sure how the DST is for noise. With that in mind, I'd think you'd be fine with a regular D5. I have mine pushing through about 3M of tubing into a Nova 1080 for god's sake. :P

ive already bought the d5T some time ago. its waaay overkill for my needs, and it doesnt have a variable speed (normal d5 goes 1-5, but the d5T goes 5-10, 10 being @ 24v), so its not ideal, but i got it for peanuts on ebay.

I havent turned it on yet, but its probably going to be the loudest thing in my rig. that, or the AX1200.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,180 ✭✭✭Serephucus

Ah, well if you got it cheap fair enough. Probably overkill, but a very nice pump none-the-less. :P

Yeah, that one's weird. There seriously wasn't a quieter PSU out there for €150-ish? Surely a good 650W something from Be Quiet would have done the job?

They have live support, its in Customer Services and click on support ticket and you will see it.

its not that its that loud, its just that its a big ol 140mm 2000rpm fan runnning at around 50% (i presume). its louder than my old XFX core 850W, and when im just running GT 1850's @ ~30%, it stands out.

650W would be cutting it pretty close for my setup. the 6990 is quite an inefficient dog. apparently the AX850 is quieter than the AX1200, but its €172! i paid €130 for the AX1200.

eventually I will move to 7950CF, and use a fanless 550W PSU.

    cant access specialtech from college.

bloody porno filter is set way too high :/

0871 412 6871 is their number, if that helps you.

That's weird about the PSU... meh, cheap is cheap I suppose. A fanless PSU is my end goal as well, though I'm still a bit concerned about the thing staying cool. I'm probably going to try for a hybrid PSU that doesn't turn its fan on until 30-40% load or something (hopefully someone makes something like this)
