I'm not at home and I don't have any links yet but apparently theirs an estate sealed off and a big stand off with some fella and the armed gardai support unit in Sligo? It got me thinking does these happen much in Ireland,has anyone witnessed it...

yeah it happens fairly regularly
whenever the drug squad are raiding a house they are usually accompanied by the armed response unit.

a guy with a machete is what i heard, it's woodtown lodge up pearse road and the armed response unit have been stood down and social services are still there and involved. the estate is open again.

It'd be good to see a mad situation live on the news, some mad fecker having murder with the guards (providing nobody suffered a serious injury though) although a bit of banter would make for good viewing.

Happened in Waterford a few months back too. Some lad lost his job so he wen protesting about it on a roof top with a "gun" (pellet gun). So the ASU were called. Somehow, I imagine it happens more than we think.
