Do you think 1400 pm is enough for a single 21 year old to live off in cork?

I am living in cork and am wondering if 1400 (350 pw) is enough for a single 21 year old to live off? Your opinions would be great :)

Please expand on why you think it is or isn't enough to live on, a breakdown of costs would be helpful.

Is that take home pay or before tax?

How often do you socialise and what's your discretional spending like?
    Also gas bill, electricity etc?

If rent, utilities etc are taking out of that . Then it will be tight enough . You won't be saving any money . But you should be ok

Depends what your rent/bills are. Should be fine though.

    That should be plenty.
I'd disagree when somebody says you won't be saving.
Depends if you are sharing or living alone, alone will cost you a lot more obviously, for rent and bills.
But if you are sharing, then depending where you live a room for rent would range from 250 - 450 p.m., and the 450 would be a nice room in the city center. 250 would be probably a single room in a suburb like Douglas (only a short bus ride to city center).
Bills on top of that would be around 100-150 p.m., groceries 250-350 p.m.

That still leaves you a good bit left over for socialising, and as long as your not in the habit of constant benders you should be able to save.

I'm assuming that's your pay after tax, but if not, you should still be ok but it will be more difficult.

Just to give you an example we had a 2 single guys in their 20's living with us in a previous house share (a few months ago). We were living not quite city centre but 10mins walk to Patricks Street. The guy in the single room payed 200pm rent and the guy in the double payed 300pm rent (neither en-suite) in a 3 bed house of 4 sharing. Bills worked out roughly 200euro/4pm for electricity & gas and 75euro/4pm for UPC TV & internet.. I think the bins were about 8europm each. When I comes to groceries, I wouldn't know the cost for a single but me & my boyf spend about 50pw between us. Other than that it just depends on your own socialising habits.. hope this helps :)

May I ask why you are posting this?
If I was making that much at the moment I would consider myself very well-off! On about half that a month.. just like thousands of others who are unemployed and have to pay rent and bills out of it. Barely managing but it's possible!

That's pretty expensive rent. I'd suggest asking for a raise :)

(Or getting somewhere cheaper. You'd get some really nice places for a good bit less than that!)
