    The subject often crops up of just how dangerous can that little 40gr lump of lead be at longer ranges, particularly when assessing the need for a decent backstop when shooting over the countryside?

    This little video clip, of a shooter using a Ruger 10/22 and Velocitor ammunition, proves the point very well - IMO it should be required watching for anybody contemplating taking a .22 out into the wider world.

    I'd remind you that this was an experiment carried out under controlled conditions, and that apart from the lack of any bone - is a pretty good simulation of the human body at mid-thigh, or between the belt and lower rib cage.

    I saw a video recently where some guys tested a .22 at 400yds, it was still able to penetrate a half inch pine board no problem.

    Apparently the pine board lethality test was used by the US Army in the past. Can link the video if anyone cares to see it.
