As long as you do it in a sexy way, unencumbered by a swim-ring, that's okay.

    Why?

Facebook told me that my information was private! Plus I feel super stupid/naïve.

Nah, you're grand. If you haven't received multiple messages from your friends or family by now wondering if you were really kidnapped, then we've all thought too little of our brethren.

That would be fairly typical internet behaviour.
Either that, or sending a pizza from every parlour in your hometown to your house.

I had to stop reading when I saw a question "Which is more important- the bible or the constitution"

    :( humanity makes me sad

    Awwwww I think somebodys jealous!!

Come on. You think somebody picking bible is bad..if you said which is more important - One Direction or the Constitution to girls in Ireland. Which do you think would be the answer for most? I'm not religious but live and let live and all that

WickedWest, ignore the posters who agreed that Irish women were generally hostile to American women. Same as anywhere, you'll find women who are cows and others who are lovely.

Cultural differences can make for misunderstandings--the Irish tend to be very self-deprecating whereas many Americans are not--but treat people well and with respect and you'll be grand making friends of both genders. :)

Thanks! I think that's the thing I'm most nervous about.

I understand you to be a level-headed sort. Do you not think Irish girls in general can be a little abrasive towards newbies?
(Not saying she'll encounter much of this, because certain people tend to gravitate towards other certain people, just that it's there.)

My mother moved to Ireland from America and I worked with a few Polish ladies. They all thought Irish girls were pretty mean towards them when they moved there. But I'd imagine it's the same as a pretty girl and other girls resenting them for their looks. A foreign girl has something which makes them unique and is a threat. TO SOME, NOT ALL

NEVER SAID TO ALL. HAVE JUST COME ACROSS A LOT OF...*couchcough*...a lot of girls with ****ty attitudes here. I know Ireland's got tons of aMAZing girls, and that you can avoid the bitches, but I've found girls in other countries slightly more welcoming/embracing? Generally speaking.
Again, the OP will find an intelligent crew in Cork at college to socialise with, so she won't see much of it.

I don't think I'm much of a threat, so maybe I'll be fine?

Just don't wear that t-shirt with that pic of you in a bikini on the front, and you'll be...? Grand.

Yup. Every time. Grand. Leg trapped in dog's mouth? GRAND. Prolapsed oesophagus from scalding-hot tea? Graaaaand,

Hmmmm a girl that's confident enough in her body to put a picture of herself in a bikini on the 4th most visited website in Ireland who doesn't drink or whore herself about.....nah, they'll love you!! HAAAA

You know the talk that Irelands full of drunks, it's true. Not just men but women too, there's a heavy drink culture. Also in the last 10 years or so there's been a bit of a change in the attitude towards sex in the country. A lot of people are just throwing it about to anybody that's interested. A lot of Irish guys if you'd ask them would say they really like a nice American accent on a girl. Not every American woman has a sexy accent or anything but some do and if you do you'll be even more likely to be getting the guys flocking around ya.

Don't worry about it though. It's not all girls. Just beware that there's going to be some like that and to just let it roll of your back. You don't need to get upset about it. It's not personal, they are just A-holes.

And the reason the accent is relevant if you have a group of guys and every one of them is trying to talk to you and ignoring the plain Jane Irish girls beside you. They ain't going to like it.

    Plain Jane, I'm a rascal!

If I had KNOWN it was the 4th most visited site in Ireland, I wouldn't have posted it!

They should really include that in the FAQs.
