I had a similar "What the fcuk?" response at the ending. That's some weird ****.

Sure lads, the night is dark and full of terrors. :D

Geoffrey got seriously sadistic in this episode! Christ...

Loved how Tyrion manipulated Ceresi's blonde bombshell!

+1 on whatdafuq happened at the end

Literally said what the **** at the end. Brilliant stuff.

Don't know where I'll find the time to watch next weeks episode. Will have to wait till sometime after Tuesday or Wednesday. Stupid exams starting.

And again, I love Tyrion. Amazing character.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,128 ✭✭✭✭Oranage2

Read the comments here before watching and still eye brows were raised at the end.

Would liked to have seen some sort of battle at the start, also Robb Start is becoming one of my favourite characters.

Daenerys Targaryen's scene was really good too and the city looked amazing.

Also loved the brotherly love between the two Baratheon boys.

Yeah Geoffrey was seriously seriously demented in that episode.

I love how everyone had the same reaction as me at the end. What exactly was that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,116 ✭✭✭Professional Griefer

    I dunno.

I think she might be one of undead(?). A few episodes ago she told Davos' son about dieing by fire, or something like that, when earlier in that episode Tyrion said about the only way to kill them was with fire. And didn't the old man try to poison her, he died, but she didn't. Probably load of rubbish though.

I'm a bit lost with the Arya sub-plot. Where are they now that they're being interrogated? I thought they were being brought back to Cersei Lannister.

Thats Harrenhall, Its owned by men loyal to Joffery. Whitch is why Tywin showed up at the end.

They're in Harrenhall. Its the place Tyrion offered to Littlefinger in exchange for keeping quite, Littlefinger said something along the lines of "Feck off that place is miserable and haunted".

They think they killed Robert's last bastard child so the rest are just prisoners now so they brought them to the nearest camp.

They were brought back to Tywin at Harrenhal.

They were looking for Gendry not Arya is how I've taken the story - guards "killed" Gendry or so they believe so they just rounded up everyone else now and have them prisoner...

Don't think Cersei ever wanted Gendry back - just wanted him killed in case he or any of the other bastard children caused problems...

gonna be good to see how Arya gets on with Tywin Lannister though now...

and another +1 to the DAFAQ at the end  :o

They are at Harrenhal, a castle occupied by Lannister troops including The Mountain and his men. Its the castle which was granted to Janos Slynt (and subsequently taken away by Tyrion)

The Lannisters men think Gendry was killed, so they are all just treated as run of the mill captives.

    very odd...

Loved Quarth though, beautiful city. Wouldn't they just let them, kill Daenarys in her sleep with the other Dalthraki and keep the Dragons though?

    Shaping up well though :)

On them being at Harrenhal and being taken interrogated, the show explained it really bad. When they were asking about gold and who helps the Brotherhood, they are on about the Brotherhood Without Banners. Ye might remember their leader from the first series when Eddard sends Beric Dondarrion out to capture Ser Gregor Clegane for raiding the countryside. It might be worth reading up about it since I don't think the show is going to explain it fully

Actually, unless HBO put something up relating to it, don't read up about it as it could spoil something

clearly theyre not really bothered about finding info there just using it as a formula for torture and killing

I don't think its overly spoilerific to mention that the torture scenes are the first instance we find out about the brotherhood without banners n the books, there really is no mention of them up to that point.

There is no need for the show to explain this. We are viewing all of this from the point of view of the prisoners and like them we don't know who this brotherhood are. The right way to handle it if you ask me.

    What the hell?
    What the hell??

Jesus, what a way to end the episode; how was that for a fair slice of whatthefukery.

Bizarre black-magic aside, a very strong episode all round:

Will we see some forbidden love from Rob Stark? Don't forget he's politically bound to marry the daughter of that lord from series 1; I can't imagine Catlyn liking his eyeing up of a lowly nurse

Joffrey continues to out-do himself when it comes to being an absolute, irredeemable bast*rd. At this rate, there's no way the show can match the punishment to the crimes of that toerag.

I'm guessing now is when Daenerys starts to rebuild her empire, using favours and friendships built in Qarth. A smashing looking city all told, positively serene compared to the miserable surroundings of Westeros (though clearly the editor is a total troll - suddenly cutting from a beautiful FX vista of the city, to a graphic closeup of a severed head being hammered into a stake. Marvellous )

And as for the ending? Well the 'thing' she was giving birth to seemed to be fully grown; for the life of me I can't imagine what her angle is in all this. Actually hang on, am I right in thinking that took place near Renly's stronghold; Davos seemed to suggest this. Was she birthing an assassin?

Love the scenes with Tyrion now. He certainly knows how to manipulate!

Joffrey - Super sadistic, possibly gay? Certainly comes across that way.

Yeah that ending was a big wtf. At least she does seem to have power of some kind and isn't just some quack! We don't really know how much time has passed since the inception of whatever that thing was however. It's easy to forget that it would generally take days/weeks to travel between most of the cities!

yeah time passes quickly at times in the show, sure wasnt quart a 3 day ride from where deanerys was, and they got there in this episode, must say im looking forward to seeing more or quart it looks like a fantastic city and the fact it run by 13 merchants with no doubt assorted pasts makes thing much more interesting, and TBF to deanarys she played her cards close to her chest, not letting anyone see the dragons until shes safely inside the city and is happy that the dragons wont be taken from her,
i loved when she threatened to come back and destroy the city and was then put in her place:D, she still has a lot to learn about making friends just like stannis,

did jeofrey have that girl beaten cause he though tyrion sent her for him the punish instead of sansa, or is he just a sadistic little ****, and a ****ing dumb-ass, 2 good looking girls to do with what you wish and you have one flogged,

and WTF was that at the end, sweet Jesus that came out of nowhere, magic truly has returned to westeros in a very very big way, so far we have dragons, crazy bitches giving birth to smoke monsters, and Ive no doubt bran will also have magical abilities when he goes for his training, even though no one has done anything in generations,

also i thought it was funny that arya has now been chosen to be tywin lannisters hand maiden:D, although im still baffled at the fact the lannisters are simply allowed to take men meant for the wall and put them to work for themselves,

Who is gonna stop them? The Lannisters have the throne, Robb's army is up North and Stannis and Renly are to the South. The watch only derives its legitimacy from the crown, they have no real power to speak of. At most they could say "Joffrey pretty please don't take our recruits" or "Hey other kings, pretty please stop Joffrey from taking our recruits".

Anyway, regarding the ending, I was really really hoping they'd be more subtle about it than that. I've read the books so maybe I didn't have enough "what the hell!" going on for the scene to work, but I though it looked a little silly. This blatant magic is gonna turn off a lot of the fans they earned in season 1.

Joffery gets worse and worse. With the crossbow pointed at sansa
Tyrion is a legend. Every line of dialogue he has is good!

Great method of torture with the rats

Line of the season so far and no surprise it came from the brilliant Peter Dinklage.

Absolutely awesome episode - no idea what that was at the end, going to be itching to see this next week. Great seeing Liam Cunningham - hope he gets more screen time as I think he is a terrific actor.

    Christ that was some ending.

I'd imagine that's the intention, to get Renly out of the picture. I think Davos had an idea that Stannis was intending killing his brother when he asked him to take her ashore which is why he asked him if he was sure. He obviously didn't think it'd be by means of a smoke-demon baby, though. Stannis in charge of Renly's forces would suddenly create one utter mess of a war.

Magic was in the series from frame one, though, remember that the first scene was those Night's Watch soldiers being murdered by a White Walker. It all feels like a story of magic slowly pervading a world that had forgotten it existed.

Yeah heave to agree, they kinda left it hanging what exactly the torturers were looknig for. They could have at least mentioned Berics name at some point so some people might realise what they were after. 'The Brotherhood' means SFA to anyone who hasn't read the books.

The catching up on what's happened before is knocking 2-3 minutes of the show I think - seaon 1 episodes were 55 minutes without going back on what's happened whereas this season they're still 55 but have the catch up scenes at the start

for some reason the episodes do seem a lot shorter though

I was expecting them to head into the camp somehow and assassinate Renly
Sure it was certain after the talk about it not being clean
I certainly wasn't expecting that ending

Loved the beginning with Robb and his men about to charge on the camp.
Was just a flash and the call but it worked realy well
Robb is truely a leader of men

Whereas dragons were ok? I don't think the average viewer is that fickle that the presence of some magic is going to be a deal-breaker. If anything, the show has been slowly introducing it into the fabric of the story withouting appearing too jarring. Like I said, the first series ended with the birth of dragons after some black-magic rituals, had zombies during & even started the series with a little implied magic. The viewer has been warned.

Besides, if anything, the average audience-member is more likely to turn off because of all of the nudity given the public's prudishness.

I have to say I loved it up until the ending. With the Dragons and White Walkers a non book reader like me knew they existed. I thought last nights ending was silly as we really haven't had enough background on Stannis lady.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,269 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Well, to be fair, you'd already seen her ingest poison without batting an eyelid when it killed the maester who shared her cup instantly. If you re-watch that scene closely you'll see her pendant was burning brightly and she says that "fire purifies" or something along those lines so it's already been established in the show that she has some ability with magic...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 265 ✭✭HankScorpio1985

Stannis is the king in the narrow sea and based on Dragonstone...
Renly is king in the highgarden and his army is probably based not too far from there in the west. They met in last nights episode, probably somewhere half way. Would this not be be very close to Kings Landing and Lannister territory or am I getting the positions mixed up? Or is Renly at Storms End?

If you want to know what the Brotherhood is read it here:
In Season 1 Ned charged Lord Beric Dondarion to take some of his troops out to return the mountain (Ser Gregor Clegane) to answer for his crimes (at the behest of his liege lord Tywin Lannister) in the Riverlands.

These soldiers were a combination of King Roberts and Ned's own personal guard. Not taking any other side, they consider themselves "Kings Men" or the "Brotherhood without Banners".

(Interesting aside: there is a Brotherhood without Banners amongst George RR Martin's fans. At Worldcon he sets people challenges (for example were Worldcon in Ireland it might be to fetch him some Poitin or Haggis were it in Scotland) and "knights" them with funny names. Some of the "brotherhood" have actually had their names used for walk-on characters in the later books)

WARNING: DO NOT GOOGLE THIS, YOU'LL RISK SOME *MAJOR* SPOILERS
