Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Okay, people, can we tone down the aggressive name-calling of this woman, please?

I understand that it's an emotive subject for many of you, but there's no need for outright name-calling.

    Thanks.

No I am not trolling, no I never said all 4 with one on the way were accidents. I already stated perhaps some were planned, perhaps she got pregnant on the pill (yes and it happens....often) perhaps she is ignorant of getting pregnant with the pull out method (yes,a lot of people still think this works...)

I don't know the circumstances of the woman that she is soon to have 5 kids in a house that she deems unfit for raring them in. And neither does anyone else but it seems easier to condemn her and hurl abuse before considering them.

Then people here are saying they want a 5 bedroom house in Killiney, then others complaining that she wants to stay in Moyross. So she's damned if she does/doesn't

Either way, the pitchforks are a truely alight in this one.

I don't think anyone's said anything like that.
I've just seen some posters quite reasonably suggesting that some of the hatred expressed in quite disgusting terms from people who don't know her is a bit unseemly, and a poor way of debating.
Though unfortunately, such a level of "discussion" is all-too common around here lately.

It really is. Boards seems to be in decline in my opinion. Maybe not in numbers but in quality. Shocked at some of the comments left here.

Believe? No I am suggesting very likely possibilities for pregnancies, wanted or not.
But feel free to give up anyway.

I cant understand the mindset of people who are defending this womans behaviour. She has 4 children and another on the way and according to herself she and her children are living in a dangerous enviroment. Where is the personal responsibility? Of course contraception doesnt always work so the onus is on her to use multiple contraception to make sure an unwanted pregnancy does not occur. This is not an outlandish idea, many people have to do this myself included due to strong medication I have to take for a long term illness. If I were to become pregnant while taking this medication any baby I would have would have serious abnormalities. I would never choose to put a child of mine in this situation so when it comes to contraception we as a couple are ultra responsible. Nothing from stopping this lady been the same.

& there's lots of other different types of contraception other than the pill/condoms she could have been using

Is it the only way that people can express their feelings on the issue?.
So many people myself included are really struggling at the minute and yes when you see a story like this it can make your blood boil but to descend to the level of some of the posts here does nobody any favours.
Does it make people feel better about their own situation to take out their frustration about their own lives on a total stranger?.

she wants a bigger house ??? SO DO I - but im not putting my hand out and stamping my feet

Maybe she didn't get the talk, maybe they didn't reiterate that the pill doesn't work with antibiotics, maybe her fella thought the pull out method was savvy, maybe she was forced...this is getting into sinister territory now...but not unlikely....

No, but its easy to see why people would be pissed off, we are all being caught for extra taxes with more on the way, for alot of us a holiday is a thing of the past, mortgage repayments are becoming a nightmare but despite all that we didn't start popping out kids left right and centre and expect the taxpayer to provide us with everything.

  • Registered Users Posts: 922 ✭✭✭trishasaffron

Yes the abuse is sickening but this is AH after all.

But my god how times have changed. I was brought up in the leafy middle class suburbs of Dublin - one of 7 + Mum & Dad - 9 people in a 4 bed house. Did we feel underprivileged? Not at all. Did anyone provide any support for free ? Not at all.

Does she deserve abuse? ........No one deserves abuse.

Is a rethink needed about how resources are allocated in society?....absolutely

You are right. Its possible. Highly unlikely but possible

Now given that no one on either side of the 'argument' knows the real facts about her life. People have to make presumptions in order to express an opinion.

What would you say was the most likely?

    (a) your hypothesis
    (b) she was either irresponsible in having 5 kids or did so deliberately to milk the system

Funny with all the crowds jeering for her to have her 'gee sown up', her 'gee stapled' and shouts for her to keep her legs together, not one person has suggested that the father(s) of the children take care of his children. Does he have no responsibility? I only know of one immaculate conception; after that I do believe it takes two at minimum.

This woman has come from a disadvantaged area, and is doing the best she can. She hasn't given her kids away to be taken into care.

She is completely irresponsible given the fact she has brought at least 2 more children to live in a house where she is fearful that the problems she faced for 18mths are not completely cleared up. She believes the house to be too small and say her children are disturbed at night by their older brothers fits. Anyone can see that another baby will only add to the disturbances for these children. She maybe a great mum in other ways but she is irresponsible in regard to family planning and the housing needs of her existing children.

Reading these kind of stories makes me both furious and in absolute disbelief at some people in this world.

I and my husband bought our home five years ago and have a reasonable mortgage - small house 2 and a half (you couldn't call the third bedroom a full room really) bedrooms, one bathroom - we pay all our taxes and work day and night to earn enough just to get by.

We both very badly want to start our family but the reality is that we simply can't afford to right now and TBH we are starting to despair as to if we'll ever get to start a family. We have actually sat down some nights and cried about it. It's an awful, awful feeling.

So, you can all probably imagine how we feel to read about a woman popping out her fifth sprog without any kind of planning and getting everything handed to her - only to then have the absolute cheek to start demanding more!

If we ever are lucky to have a child - most likely it'll be our first and last. It feels like we are being punished by our government for being responsible, it's just not fair!

Socialism gets into people's bones, the entitlement this lady feels is the system's fault.

What is of note here is that that her children may take on the same values and therefore the cost to the tax payer grows exponentially.

One room for parents and baby. One room for epileptic ADHD kid. One room for other kids. When the fifth child comes it will be a squeeze but that's the life of a slut. :D

More along the lines of suggesting that her background might partly play a factor in her situation, which I don't think anyone would argue with.

Which is exactly the reaction the newspapers want, and why they feature stories of cases like this completely disproportionate to the number of such actual cases in the real world.
They also deliberately pick and choose details to get you angry, in case some element of reality contradicts the narrative they want to construct.
Lastly, they'll feature a big picture of a crying baby to really get you going.

the level of hatred towards this woman is just :eek:and the assumptions she is scum etc etc maybe her sense of entitlement is inflated however without seeing the house who knows what her living conditions are like .

Also with all the young leaving the country maybe we need more woman having babies to fill the gap

i do agree though that kids are expensive and where possible be carefully planned to have 4 children and one on the way isnt very smart however i dont think this woman is equilvalant to stalin nor do none of us know if she is a slut .
She can be the secret call girl if she wants. As long as shes prepared to live with her actions and take sole reponsibility for them. We dont need more welfare children to replace working graduates/tradesmen or whatever. Thats a daft thing to say.
