Hello all! Please ensure that you are posting a new thread or question in the appropriate forum. The Feedback forum is overwhelmed with questions that are having to be moved elsewhere. If you need help to verify your account contact hello@boards.ie
Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.
Hi there,
There is an issue with role permissions that is being worked on at the moment.
If you are having trouble with access or permissions on regional forums please post here to get access: https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058365403/you-do-not-have-permission-for-that#latest

Would you accept this apology?

    Why does the After Hours referendum ''mega thread'' not have an impartial OP and Poll?

    Why? why not? It just does so deal with it.

    @K_1

    I'm so sorry for inflicting that hasty and ill advised reply to your genuine enquiry regarding the polarity of the OP referenced. Upon reflection I think I have the explanation that you seek.

    It's all based on statistical probability. This was a nebulous load of nonsense until Einstein gave it a mathematical basis back in 1904. Einstein used it to explain why a country of smart people that is Switzerland, should have so many crazy patent applications. This new branch of mathematics was later used by Bhor and Heisenberg to justify a world view that stopped real scientific progress for many years. Thankfully their theorys were eventually debunked by the irish Physicist John Stewart Bell.

    In our case we may think of the boards.ie population as a seething mass of electrons. Each boardie/electron has a bipolar property commonly referred to as 'spin'. Some spin to the left while the remainder spin to the right.

    Now it is a normal property of government actions and announcement to be right spinning. when these events occur, the energy level of the left spinning boardies increases by a factor proportional to their proximity to a computer keyboard. This electric like effect works on the basis that opposites attract. They do so until their mutual negativity cause enough repulsion to maintain a 'standoff'.

    Interestingly, the right spinning boardies are stimulated by these events as well. Generally not to the same degree as those of the left. This phenomenom is counter to our current understanding of nature. some theorist believe that it simply a reaction to the left spinning activity. To date no credible proof has been offered. Researchers at CERN, happily, are beavering away trying to figure it all out. They believe a rational explanation is only 5 to 10 years away.

    So while the right spinning activity is not well understood the left spinning action may be mathematically expressed:

    LeSpinK = GovSpin x CompProx x (1-Midnight) x (InitLeSpin + 1)

    Here (1-Midnight) is a time based function that varies only slightly from LeSpin to RtSpin, and therefore is usually regarded as a constant. A few other insignificat variables have been omitted.

    The Right spinning activity is not so well defined (see above). Our current understanding of OP activity is that:

    IF GovSpin = Rt then RtSpin < LeSpin

    Given the above relationships and throw in a bit of probability theory to muddy things up and the result is as you have observed.

    The OP is spinning in one direction or another, usually against the spin of the stimulating event.

    Of course you may have heard of the recently discovered 'neutral' bodies. Compared to the high spin types these have been observed to be large and slow moving. you won't see much activity there.

    Please also note that the concepts: 'spin', 'left' and 'right' have no basis in nature.

    I hope this helps
