At Billy Hollands age Mick ODriscoll was returning from Perpignan. He was miles ahead of where Holland is now. Holland is not looking like the new Micko.

    Well therein lies the difference

They've both got 2 year contracts to play B & I Cup rugby next year with maybe 3/4 fleeting appearances in the Rabo. These 3/4 appearances deprive young players of a game. Why not throw in an academy player instead.

Williams is 25 and showing no signs of improvement. Holland is 26. It's a waste imo

At least if they were at Connacht they'd have got more opportunities and at a higher level, so you either improve or you sink. They're going nowhere playing B & I at their age really.

Try 15 games in the Rabo and you'll be much closer to the mark.

Holland is a very important player for the Rabo and B&I cup as he provides the experience and leadership that is needed when a bunch of kids take the field. He will never be a top player, but he is an important squad member until Nagle/Hayes/Foley prove that they can step up. That said, he should have left this year. He would play a much bigger role in the other 3 provinces or in the premiership.

Williams doesn't look like he'll ever make the grade, but he's needed due to TOL's departure. We have seen nothing of Sheridan and we'll need more than just Stringer and Murray is we are to compete on all fronts.

Two year deals were probably a little excessive though. One year deals which would allow us to assess younger players would have been better suited.

I'd have to disagree about Archer. I thought he was mostly solid in the scrums and did fairly well in the loose. One or two decisions went against the Munster scrum, but to be honest the way the scrum is refereed at times at the moment it's hard to say that it was necessarily the right call. In truth most of them could have gone the other way just as easily.

For the most part I thought he won the initial hit, but he does tend to be driven up too easily. It might be the same situation as Buckley, but it would be unfair to judge them in the same way just yet. They aren't the same players and his mentality and ability to improve his technique may end up being vastly different.

The worry I would have is that it's hard to judge how good the opposition front row were. Against higher opposition I imagine he would be in big trouble right now. Also, when Ryan came on at the end he did destroy their scrum but at that stage they were well beaten & looked exhausted. Still, it's good to see an Irish tighthead being ruthless and making the advantage count.

I missed a chunk at the start of the second half but I thought Williams had a good game and I don't normally rate him. Anyway, great to see an Irish province with some silverware - heard plenty of chickens being counted down the pub tonight but at least we have something to show for our season. :D

It was a poor enough games I thought. A bit scrappy with loads of handling errors.

DOC2 showed more glimpses of his potential. He looks like he would be able to bulk up more. It'll be interesting to see what they do. Butler showed his handling ability once again.

Brian Hayes carried alot of ball also as well as Kilcoyne and Archer. The scrums were not impressive though. John Ryan made a difference when he came on near the end.

Deasy and Williams were hot and cold as usual. Williams would be a good player if he could pass the ball! Deasy makes alot of mistakes. He goal kicking has come on well though.

Ivan Dineen and Barnes were ok. Scanlon looked dangerous as always and the wingers got little ball although LOD once again ends up on the score sheet.

From "The Heineken Cup is the only thing that matters to us" to "YES! We won the B&I Cup!" in 3 years. Some fall from grace...

Only if none of these players go on to feature in next years HEC. It's great to see some talent coming through, amazingly we look to have yet another decent second row in Hayes. I wonder can Butler make a break through next season like POM did this year? The talent is there.

I think if Butler does push his way into the team it will be at the end of the year rather than the start.

Are there question marks over Leamy and Wally's return at this stage? A back row of POM/DOC 2.0, Ronan/TOD, Coughlan/Butler is good but not great IMO. Certainly deep enough to push on two fronts though.

IF TOD Becomes a top player then a young back row of POM, TOD, Butler could be very useful for Munster for a long time.

I was at the game and haven't seen it in TV yet but I thought it was a dour enough game and the penalties made it a stop start kind of game for most of the 1st half. Hurley's try might have opened it up but it was disallowed for crossing. I thought their 1st YC was harsh but one could have given later and wasn't so maybe ballanced itself out.

Should a red card have shown for the "spear tackle" on Barnes, on my view I thought so.

I was well impressed with our defence especially at ruck time, I thought Dineen had a great game but did miss a couple of tackles, LOD made meteres whenever he had the ball in hand, Nagle looked taller and stronger than ever before and DOC was the stand out player in the pack for me. I maybe going against some/most posters here but I thought Williams had a decent game.

As for Archer, on last nights game I really dont see what some are complaining about, he did well, I thought we scrummed well last night. On the scrums did ye see the size of the Cross Keys props

Cross Keys lineout let them down and Munster took advantage of it.

All in all, a good night for Munster A, our first time winning it. Hopefully the tournament will grow and a title sponsor will come on board. On an aside, the officials were Scottish and the A/Rs used Scottish Rugby flags abd the balls were just whatever were provided by Munster almost back to the days of amateur rugby.
