Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Odd time changed

    Lights come on but it doesn't start.

    Sounds like a flat battery.If so it will start with a push or a jump start. Is there fuel in the tank?

    Fuel full. Bike is used 3 times a week on average long spins. Lights are Comming on. You could be right about battery but it was replaced in the last two years.

    Local bike shop has a truck on the way so will see what they say. Would like full diag of this.

    If the clock is going to an odd time, then it sounds like either the battery is on it's last legs or there is a connection problem. Have you lifted the seat to check the connections are nice and tight

    Thanks all.
    AA arrived and used a portable charger and jumped it.
    Its charging fine.
    New battery time.
    Happy to know its not something serious.
    We got a new battery end 2012 / start 2011 fitted in be shop.
    Whats the battery warranty normally?
    It was used 3 days a week on 40K journeys, we didnt leave it idle for months.
    same place always services etc.
    Warranty on old defective one?

    It depends on the quality of the battery. Cheap ones don't last very long and the v-twin configuration of the duvie means you need a good umph to coax the engine into life. A good battery is essential for your type of bike and even then I would only expect to get two years use from it.
    I would'nt recommend buying a cheap booster jumper, they need to be charged for hours just to give one shot of power. A set of jumper cables is a better investment.

    Batteries are funny things, if the battery was improperly filled and charged its useful life can be dramatically reduced.
    Many batteries are sent 'dry' where the battery has a seperate pack of acid which is used to fill the battery.
    If there is airbubbles introduced into the battery and it is charged while they are present then the plates form sulfate crystals and the battery life is reduced by a huge amount.
    If you intend keeping the bike for a while then you might be better off buying an AGM type of battery, MotoBatt and Oddyssey are two well known ones.
    These use a slightly different system of holding the acid and are generally longer lasting and resistant to self-discharge than conventional lead acid batteries.
