Congrats everyone who got in! :)

Anyone knows what are the chances of getting in for 2014 for an international entrant (no UK address) with a sub-3 hour time?

Would really love to do this race at one stage... :o
I don't think your time is relevant, if you're entering the ballot. You should think very hard, and remember what your UK address is :) (includes Northern Ireland).

I'll get my contacts book out and see if anyone can help me remember it... :P

Just got a PFO from the International Ballot to go with my PFO from the UK ballot...:-(
I guess I can look to book Edinburgh now!!

Am I right to think they are going to do another draw in October of people who submitted their entry fee to charity but who didn't get in on the original ballot?

Anyone book flights yet? They're pretty cheap with ryanair at the moment, though depends where you fly into. Where's the best place to fly into for staying in Paddington? (I think, I can't really remember where I booked :pac: )

I got free ones with aerlingus. Pity the bloody tax out of heathrow is €75

Heathrow for Paddington area if you're getting the Heathrow Express in, that's a bit of a ripoff though.

It wouldnt be much more than an hour from any of the ryanair airports. Stansted is the most awkward for you.

You got yourself an entry then? ;)

Thats fairly cheap by London-Dublin standards. It doesnt get much cheaper than that these days. Half of Ireland's young are in London and Ryanair/Aer Lingus know that. You're saving a tenner each way by getting the tube in, which has to be factored in too.

But Heathrow is twice the price of ryanair

Yeah I begged the organisers and they let me in as a 3:10 pacer. If I get in between 3:09 and 3:10 then I get a free entry.
If I go one second over 3:10 I get a kicking apparently :D

It can actually work out cheaper if Ryanair decide to gouge early and hard

Ryanair are all tax free at the mo though...

Will wait a bit and see if I can scab free accommodation from family or something before booking flights. :)

    R?

Tempted by Ryanair flights from Cork but..............it's Ryanair, and the cost of transfers from their destination airports will most probably offset any savings on the cost of the flight. And I hate their " another-Ryanair-flight-on-time music".

no you can run for yourself. but all i know is that you have to go through an operator. at the moment. it would cost 895€ for flights/hotel/race entry...

theres gotta be another way in....

Is it really €895, i cannot get a response from sports international, i think they are too busy working on the nyc. Problems at the moment, is that for 2 or 3 nights? Thanks

That's madness, simply not worth that. I'd want to be going stateside for that kind of money.

What does one need to do to gain entry for london for 2013 or am I ridiculously too late all ready?

I came across this tour operator from a link on the race website and I plan to give them a ring in the morning, they still seem to be advertising for entries but I presume this is through a charity fundraiser.. . Any input thanks?

1,075 euro, apparently. You have missed all of the entry lotteries (which are very difficult to get a place in anyway). You could probably still get a charity entry, but you need to raise thousands of euro,

Best thing to do is run a 'good for age' time in 2013 and enter the 2014 London marathon using your qualification time and your UK address.

Or run sub 2:45 and join a UK club and you can still get in for 2013 at the moment.
Or run sub 2:2? and they might pay you to run and stick you in a fancy hotel.

Cheers lads, no chance of me running a sub 2.45 any time soon that`s for sure..Sub 3.45 is what id be going for.:D I presume the charity route to this is prob upwards of 5 grand.. so that`s out as well. Fundraising is a major pain in the backside, done it once and never again...

Is there any other tour operators apart from the one advertised on the official site that caters for age groupers looking for entry? 1075 is scandalous for a UK marathon...

I went with sports travel last year and paid about the €1000 mark, would say it is worth it if you really want to do London.I would not go with the pre-payed meal option again though.think it was around the €850 if you were sharing or willing to share but i paid the extra not to be sharing with a stranger.going down the gfa option this year and whilst a lot cheaper I'll be just flying in on the saturday and home again on the sunday evening.the second night accomodation with sports travel really puts up the price, don't see why they can't offer a 1 night option.

By the way I know a lad going down the charity option and he has to raise €2500 but these days it's hard to be asking people for money so that you can run a marathon.Different charities look for different amounts.

Do you have any idea if sports travel will allow the fees to be paid in instalments or does the entire amount have to paid up front??

You pay in two instalments if I remember correctly, one when you register and the other was due around Christmas.

Could anyone recommend a good site for booking an apartment in London for the marathon? Is is better to stay closer to the finish than the start? Tks in advance ... any info appreciated.

If anybody is looking for persons to share an apt with over the marathon weekend fri/sat/sun or just sat/sun count me in.
I dont know where to start in terms of looking for accomodation, so im just hoping that one of you will have done your homework and are just looking for a straggler like me to help keep the cost down. :)
Im travelling over from Cork on my own.

I'd recommend staying somewhere near the finish if possible. Getting to the start is simple, although a little crowded. Getting back to the hotel afterwards might not be the most fun if it's a long way away...and more importantly the pub will be near the finish so you wont want to be too far away from there either after a few pints of ale have been sunk for recovery.

AFAIK the Strand Palace Hotel is near the finishline (well I certainly hope so!). I got a room for 2 nights for £226. It's a cheaper rate, as they are renovating outside, so there is no view, doesn't bother me as I'll see enough of London running 26.2 miles :D

That's where I stayed this year, right across the road from the pub we started in as well.

Aer Lingus are now having their 'Break-away' sale. Supposedly up to 50% off fares to Britain. In actuality, it meant €2.50 off a return flight to Gatwick. About enough for a bag of chips after the race.

Alwasy wanted to run this marathon. Will a good for age time from this years DCM be acceptable for London 2014?

    Yes.

You will need to submit the proof to them around May 2013, a print out of the DCM pdf certificate, and then provide them with a UK return address and a cheque drawn on a UK bank, or a postal order.

Did you know..... London marathon 2013 is just over 21 weeks away?
That means, that if you are planning on following an 18 week training plan, you'll be starting it around the 17th December.
A 12 week plan on the other hand will start around the 28th January.
And of course if you were planning on a 24 week plan, you should have started three weeks ago.

There's a lot to be said for Autumn marathons..

Flights and Accomodation booked this evening. Good start to the year, no putting things off until the last minute. Booked the Strand Palace near the finish as suggested by VR and RubyK.
Just need to do a bit of running now.

Just got round to booking myself into a room with a view of scaffolding in the Strand again as well.

Think this simplifies the choice of boozer for afterwards.. we will be starting in the Coal Hole across the road from the Strand Palace. :D
