Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    1. Find a friend with an NFC enabled phone.
    2. Pass phone over it. (Irish passport has no metal cage.)
    3. If it works, they might let you through. If Vietnam participate in the Epassport yokey.
    4. If not, go ride a stars and stripes emblazened motorcycle around the country. :D

    That is all!

Forget the passport. Follow the Nung River into the remote Cambodian jungle, shave your head and set up your own cult. Just don't be broadcasting messages about it

    Ads.... some more info.

If you got a Vietnamese visa you were put on a list of visa recipients and should have gotten that in email form... you should be able to go and buy the Visa-On-Arrival option.

But I am confused, you dont need a visa to leave Vietnam, you need a valid passport. To get valid travel papers you need to talk to the consulate and they can give you temporary travel docs.

Good luck mate, you have some long waits in your future.

Um, there are reasons I know this stuff...

Ads, just stay in Hanoi, it is clear that you have met a lovely lady boy and you are subconsciously trying to remain in the country.

Why else would you be washing the one document that will get you out of the country?

Are you leaving because you were accused of a bank job in hanoi? A crime you did not commit?
You had best escape to the los angeles undergound

I get the feeling he's after abandoning the thread before DeVore posted so you might want to PM him.

Also, try not to crash your bike in a hurry to get your papers sorted ;)

Mr Google has been living and working in Vietnam. I assume he needs to get back in after visiting home. Working visas are a bit more awkward to get your hands on.

    just mentioning paper again

but use tissue paper / kitchen roll / toilet paper to wick the water out
press for a few minutes and replace the tissue when it's damp, add more and repeat

In general don't use heat, but do use air flow, fan or airdryer on cool

If all else fails head for the US embassy , though I suspect you might be late

After a lot of rubbing, some Kleenex and a fan, I think I'm ready to finally start drying the passport. :)

Ah no, it actually looks ok now.. The ink didn't run on the important parts and the main page is intact. Still a bit wet but gonna leave it drying overnight. If it doesn't work, I'll go to the consulate, get something sorted and try forget the money spent on flights and booking time off work.

Thanks for the somewhat helpful comments. Ie. DeVore and a couple others. x-kisses-x

Was getting it photocopied, came home, threw jeans in the wash for tomorrow. I'm not a smart man it would seem.

The front page with the photo is absolutely fine but my Visa is fairly manky. It's shlt cause I just got a one month extension stamp through a connection in immigration and I'd rather it didn't get scrutinized since it's completely against immigration rules right now to give them.

If I get a new passport, I have to get my Vietnamese Visa into the new one which is a seriously long process... And that's a Visa I shouldn't even have.

    Fuk.

Can see you ending up in the Hanoi Hilton :o:)

    Good idea!

A clean passport will draw less attention to your chequered past.

Edit: If you really need to undo the damage put it back in the washing machine but wire it up to run in reverse. The reverse rotation will alter the space time flow within the cylinder thereby restoring your passport from an earlier time. You'll also get your dirty clothes from a few hours ago back though.

This will only work if your washing machine is equipped with a flux capacitator.

Your theory is flawed, how will he power the flux capacitor unless he has exactly 1.21 Gigawatts of power?

It's not the 80's any more, modern flux capacitors work by splitting hydrogen from the water molecules in the wash

So I'm in Cambodia :) I left the passport beside my window open and it dried to a crisp in the crazy heat. And I might be able to get a one year visa down here aswell so I'm well happy.

Now to enjoy my dinner, my beer, chat shlt to other backpackers and have a night out. Easy.

What would you rate as the biggest disaster of your travelling so far Ads?

The passport issue was worrying but seems to have worked itself out so i'm voting for a joint first place:
