I'm looking to buy a blu-ray player, but I was wondering if it's possible to buy one with a usb connection that I can connect an external drive to it and play clips from the hard drive through the blu-ray player?

    Thanks for any answers.

    Yes, for sure.

Just check the supported filesystems (eg FAT32, NTFS) and also the supported media file types and codecs. You want NTFS because your hard-drive will probably be formatted that way, and for media file types obviously you want the usual.

Most codecs are a given because of course a Bluray player naturally has support for H264, AC3, DTS etc, but you want to make sure it can play all those codecs in your chosen media container (eg MKV), if it supports subtitles etc.
