Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

How Much Do You Live on a Month?

After rent/mortgage, bills (assuming this incorporates gas, electricity, loans, phone bill etc.), how much do you live on in a month?

I would do a poll but I wouldn't even know what values to add in!

Me, I live on about 800 a month. Petrol costs quite a bit, and I'm really lazy when it comes to making my lunch, I always end up buying it.

If I worked it out it'd scare me so I never bother.

There's normally a minus in front of the numbers in my money box though.

About 3k a month, but I put 2 into savings.

Grant is about €350 p/m plus €150 from the student assistance fund €220 for rent, bills are variable (it still being freezing cold in April not helping in that regard) so €280 - whatever the bills are. Finished college in May though so should be better off once I get a jo....what?

After everything (rent, food, elec, car, drugs, alcohol, eating out etc etc), about €600.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,595 ✭✭✭✭antodeco

I'm surviving on €400 a month. All my food has to come out of it, as well as my daughters.

Edit: If I take away food, I'm left with about €200. I still have to pay for petrol, and any other luxuries (ie a few drinks). In reality, I'm left with roughly €50 a month

After rent, about €200, though I live in the Czech Republic and it's a lot cheaper here.

After bills , petrol n rent but before shopping €160 a month :-(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,185 ✭✭✭tatabubbly

About I'd say after rent €268! That has to pay sky, food bills, travel and everything else.

It's not a lot and it doesn't really stretch.
But even though I'm poor, I'm rich in love and health!

Tax for a motorbike is €76 for a year, my insurance is €270. I spend about €20 a week on petrol, €70 every two weeks for food and one night out a week at about €40. I also work at the Aviva stadium so that is an extra €80 any time there is a match or concert there (works out about once every 6 weeks on average) that I forgot to include in my earlier calculations.

392.. between two and that's before buying food and not even including phone credit or our miserable little bunny ears, but, I've been worse off and there are a hell of a lot of people still worse off so you can't really complain once there's food on the table (and a table to put it on)..

.. wow, I'm never usually this 'glass half full'!

After rent and bills, bout €1300. You think you've got plenty money though, until stuff like 'root canals' and 'crowns' start working their way into the equation. This is unfortunate, as my latest lavish, unnecessary project has to be put on hold....

    'Root canals' - well la-de-da.

Extractions are all I've had since 2007.

If this keeps up, I'll have a set of teeth like Ma Clampett.

Before bills, average of €1100 a month.

After bills, averaging out insurance, tax, phone, internet, eflow (living at home, that's all I really have to pay) I'd have about €800 disposable to me per month, not including petrol which would be around €200 a month at this stage.

Actually, hadn't been to the dentist since 2004. So that's quite a stretch. Turns out I'm relatively OK, but the dentist showed me the X-rays which show I have un-usually high spiking nerves, sharp v's as opposed to the usual u shaped roots......which means, rather than fillings, there's a chance I'll need root canals. Which sucks balls.

After rent and bills, about $2900 a month left over for whatever I want. No insurance or tax to pay. Save maybe $2000 or a bit more but that's living a ridiculous lifestyle. I should be saving about $2700 if I didn't live in my new house and sometimes cooked but it's more fun not to.
