Acer A510

I received my Acer A510 today and while I haven't been able to really put it through it's paces yet I am very impressed so far. It is very similar, even identical, in spec to the Asus Transformer Prime, Tegra 3 quad core, 32 GB etc. It'a little thicker that the Prime and has a rubber feel to the back rather than the metal of the Prime. Two problem areas with the Prime seemed to be wifi and GPS but these are not issues with the A510, wifi is fine all through the house and I got GPS lock very quickly..

The screen is very smooth to swipe, very responsive. I haven't really tried it with any intensive apps like video or games yet but I'm sure it will take all in it's stride. I will update as I use it more and if there are any particular issues anyone wnats me to check I'll be glad to oblige.

The review on cnet is pretty close to what I would have to say, the only bad points they came up with were the weight and the Olympic branding, neither of which are issues for me. Some comments on other forums around the internet have mentioned heat problems which I have not yet encountered, "cool" screen colours which I haven't really noticed ( I don't like over saturated colours on screen anyway) and touch lag which again I haven't come across on mine.

Wifi and GPS are excellent. I set up my Galaxy S2 as a wifi hotspot and had no problems connecting and wifi speeds seem very good. Text is clear and sharp, using the Kindle app and Zinio. Video is smooth and, again very sharp. I haven't tried the HDMI out yet as I have no cable. A mini to standard USB adapter is supplied and when I connected my portable hard drive I was able to access the contents within seconds, haven't tried a game controller yet but would expect similar.

Battery life is excellent and I would expect that to improve over a few charge / discharge cycles. I haven't done any benchmarks yet will do soon. Rooted the tablet as soon as I booted it up which was very easy.

Overall I would have to say I am very pleased with this, and having had a play with my friends Transformer Prime today I would have to say it's pretty much six of one as regards performance.

I bought it from Pixmania 399 + delivery which was 15 with UPS. Battery life is excellent so far.

Sound is ok for built in speakers. Not very loud but reasonably clear.

Tested this out today in a shop but there was no salesperson around in the 15 minutes I spent so bought it on Amazon for €363 with free next-day shipping. Roll on tomorrow!

So I got this yesterday and it's going straight back to Amazon today. Two complete freezes in 12 hours is just not acceptable. :mad:

I might get a TF300 instead.
