Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Haven't established what an app is yet. Still I don't have an iphone so it doesn't much matter.

    I don't have a smart phone.

    I'm too clumsy to own a phone that's worth over €50 ...

I don't get the facination with "Apps" on phones to be honest. Whatsapp is handy, but I could do without it as I could use another IM app easily enough.

From there then, you've just got a load of various games.

depends, for photos, Photosynth is amazing, it takes perfect panoramic pics and stitches them together seamlessly, and its free, if you have an iphone, get it.

netflix, 4OD, the bbc and rte players are handy to have if you have a decent data allowance.

    viber, whatsapp, eirtext for texting

if you have a 4s, get Filmic Pro, Movie Looks and iMovie, turn your phone into a portable video editing station, its the job, this was shot on a phone and edited with them:

TuneIn Radio is magnificent, haven't found an App that can top that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

I use Seesmic for Twitter and I think it's fantastic. I never understood the real appeal of Twitter but on a mobile device it makes great sense.

Tune In Radio would be my other fav at the minute.

Google Sky Map is legendary. It's really simple but great to just stare at. If you're a little nerdy you'll get a kick out of it. It shows the location of stars and planets and the like. Just point the phone at the sky.

Then mostly news feeds. I also like Google Translate. It makes perfect sense as an app. You'd never be stuck wherever you were.

I have my first smart phone almost a week and it is loads of fun and pretty practical. It's killed the need for me to get at a PC or laptop except when I want to watch movies or TV shows.

Sky plus is great, if you let's say, read in the paper that something its on TV tonight and you fear you'll either forget to record it, or know you'll not be home in time, you can access your sky personal planner and set it to record.

shazam is great for music I'd's.

LogMeIn: great as either a remote control for my pc when I'm watching movies, shows or listening to music at home, or for finding and downloading all those while at work.

TouchOSC: turns your device into a midi controller, which controls music software.

Shazam: everyone knows this one. Find out what that song is, derp.

Mixologist: Cocktail recipes. Three Black&Tans and an Irish Car Bomb please!

Stanza: E-Book app, works with Calibre, which batch converts between formats.

There are some very good Apps out there but I rarely use any of them really. Most of them I download and forget to use or just use the internet instead.

I think my iPhone is finally dead today after 2 years. It's been a while coming and I'm thinking of going a step back in technology and just getting a regular phone. I'd like to think I can get buy without all these apps etc. Also I hate people being glued to them the whole time.

but the apple filetype is .app, thats where the terminology came from, otherwise you'd be calling windows programs .exes.

"there's an exe for that" doesnt have the same ring to it anyway.

Probs have to be my Battle.net authenticator, saved me paying for one and waiting on delivery.

Also get a good bit of use from the flash light app (Turns the camera flash on and keeps it on)

I have a BB torch, the apps are fairly crap, hence a flash light being one of my most used

I sell smartphones for a living.. The middle aged people who have kids abroad get whatsapp, cabbage and viber downloaded.

For me personally as I have android, app2sd, cabbage (android webtext app), whatsapp, draw free (addict), aldiko (ebook app), RTE news, and alarmdroid (which makes you do a maths sum before u can turn off your alarm in the morning.)

Rarely use apps to be honest... some of the news ones are good, but not much else.

Although in saying that I'm just putting the finishing touches on my first app now... although I have a feeling Apple are gonna reject it.
