Im thinking of having a small bet on naming the finalists; anyone got any suggestions apart from the big three of spain, germany and holland (in particular any dark horses)?

    http://www.paddypower.com/football/international-football/euro-2012-betting?ev_oc_grp_ids=273246

I was thinking of spain and czech republic; if spain top group C and czech republic come 2nd in group A, they can't meet until the final. Currently 80-1.

    Thoughts?

edit: if the czechs finish 2nd in their group, their path to the final would likely involve germany/holland, then france/england/italy ..

surely he will be subbed at some stage, even for 5 mins :)

With his age and his injury record this year that has got to be worth a punt, excellent spot

One bet for tomorrow I decided on is a Wincast

Kerzhakov to score, Russia to win @ 4.50

The guy is coming of a spectacular season for Zenit, scoring 23 goals in 32 games, won the leauge with his team, and was the second top goal scorer in the league. He had a hatrick that season, and quite a few games with two goals. He was in great form during the recent friendlies too. He is pretty much playing his the best football of his career right now,

He was also the designated Penalty taker for Zenit - and scored his last three at least (cannot remember much further back, and Soccerway is playing up for me).

For me, he is the most in form of the Russians right now, and other than Shirokov (who is an attacking midfielder, and will likely create a lot of chances), should shine tomorrow.
    Thoughts?

edit: if the czechs finish 2nd in their group, their path to the final would likely involve germany/holland, then france/england/italy ..

Russia/Poland really should be Top 2 in Group C. Like others, I was thinking of doing the Paddy Power Accumulator thing, and was debating between Russia/Poland for my pick. I cannot see the Czechs getting into contention at all to qualify.

Even if they do, I think far too much would have to come together for them to get to the final.

The Czechs also had a very rough road to qualify, and even their friendlies were rough. They scored just four goals - two of those been Penalties. They even had a hard time against Israel, who are in terrible form.

I guess anything could happen, and they could shine in the Euros after a bad run, but on current form that 80/1 does not seem high enough IMO.

    France France France!!!

Seriously, I'm telling everyone that can listen that France will win it this year. Great manager in Laurant Blanc, settled squad for once, low expectations aswell. They're also in a piss-easy group.

You could do an awful lot worse than France imo, serious dark horses.

Yeah, the more I think about it, there are too many places along the way for it to go a different way to the outcome in my head!

@ Man.UnitedLad .. could be right, might put them as a finalist.

A treble that I like the look of is the following:

    Not to qualify from group:

    Greece
    Italy
    England

    Slightly over 7/1

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

My small bet for today. Greece and Poland 0-0 and Russia Czech 2-0. Pays 90/1.

What's text betting..? and I presume this means bets placed on the regular website don't qualify...

Placed the bet online without reading the T&C. Called PP to change the bet and they say all bets placed on website are covered for the MBS. :D

Paddy Power has confirmed on Twitter that the MBS on the 4-group winners also applies to online bets.

Stuck 100e in my Paddy Power account this morning and was almost late for work trying to come up with my selections! I think I'll surely have a good chance with the top goalscorer :p

First off a patriotic bet on Ireland to win the tournament at 80/1 - 20e (10 of that is for my Dad! so dont judge it too harshly)

Four players to be top goalscorer for there respective teams

    Benzema
    Keane
    Lewondowski
    Ronaldo

    80/1 - 5e

    Player of the Tournament

    Ribery 25/1 - 2.50e
    Silva 25/1 - 2.50e

To Qualify from Group (Banker hopefully)

    Spain
    France
    Germany
    Russia

    little under 2/1 - 20e

Top Goalscorer (like a kid in a candy shop)

    Benzema 12/1 -5e
    Lewondowski 20/1 - 2.50 e/w
    Muller 28/1 - 2.50 e/w
    Podolski 28/1 - 2.50 e/w
    Kerzahkov 33/1 - 2.50 e/w
    Robben 40/1 - 2.50 e/w
    Ibrahimovich 50/1 - 2.50 e/w
    David Silva 50/1 - 5 e/w
    Affelay 100/1 - 2.50 e/w

It should add a bit of interest to the competition if nothing else!

    Benzema into 11/1 top scorer

by that logic he then has a lot of games with no goals. For this bet you'd prefer someone who scored in 23 games rather than twice in ten games...

Anyway. I think the Czechs are an OK price but can't find a bet today (yet)

Looking at Ozil 66's for top goalscorer just a small few euro. I think Germany will win it out so should play alot of games. Ozil scored 1 less goal that Gomez in qualifying and Gomez is 7/1. During qualifying he was fourth in number of shots on target so might be worth a small punt. Think 66's is too big.

Are PP taking bets on Top Goalscorer from each team? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21 firstsport

So, what are people thinking for todays matches ?

I just looked at the world rankings. I know Poland didnt have to qualify and have home advantage but theres still a huge gap !
    Greece are 15th
    Poland are 62nd

    Poland 2.08
    Greece 4.5

Just in passing I think several sides are being over/under rated.

I think Denmark,Sweden, Greece, Czech Rep and Croatia could all cause alot of upsets.

Teams I really don't fancy are:

    Italy, Russia, Ukraine and Portugal.

I think Ibrahimovich at 50-1 looks good for top scorer.

I agree many teams underrated imo. Agree with all of the above underrated teams except Czech Rep just can't see them doing anything even considering their group. Unfortunately for Denmark because of the group they are in I can't see them qualifying, I think they might shock one of the other 3 however(They beat Portugal and qualified top of their group). The other 3 have a great chance of qualifying imo, I have backed all 3 to qualify at about 2/1 each.

I don't like Italy, Poland, Ukraine and I think England could struggle. I have Ibra and Ozil as outsiders for top goalscorer.

I think Greece and Sweden are both decent shouts to win their respective groups at 6/1 each. Best price double of 44.5/1 (VC) is also worth a small interest IMO

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,734 ✭✭✭Fowler87

Have gone for trebles in these team top goalscorers... Keane @ 5/2, Lewandowski @ 7/4, Ronaldo @ 13/8 and Di Natale @ 9/2.. 1.50 trebles returns potentially over 200.

    Lewandowski e/w top scorer @ 25/1
    France group winners @ 6/4

And for todays match... Lewandowski first scorer @ 9/2

Stats are quite in poland's favour:

    Head-to-head matches: POLAND - GREECE
    29.03.11 FRI Greece Poland 0 : 0
    12.08.09 FRI Poland Greece 2 : 0
    29.05.04 FRI Poland Greece 1 : 0
    28.04.87 EUR Greece Poland 1 : 0
    15.10.86 EUR Poland Greece 2 : 1
    18.05.85 WOR Greece Poland 1 : 4
    17.10.84 WOR Poland Greece 3 : 1

It is just the period is 28 years in which those matches were played :D

Still fancy Poland though. Dont rate Greece at all apart from them being annoyingly stubborn. But people look too much at Euro2004 and think they are a capable team.
Look at the results they had in WC2010 which is more realistic of their strenght >>first round exit.

maybe I am reading too much into the rankings

although i agree with a good few of ughs in relation to the poland - greece game.
Poland are far too short for their first competitive game in over 2.5 years so its a lay of poland for me.

Just a point in relation to the rankings, they are distorted because friendlies arent given the same credit as qualifying games therefore as the poles didnt have to qualify mean they are in a false position in the rankings

Well Poland finished 5th in their qualifying group for WC2010, only finishing ahead of the mighty San Marino!

Home advantage will obviously count for something but IMO Poland are a poor side.

Got this message from Bet 365

Place a pre-match bet on the Spain v Italy game and we will give you a free In-Play bet to the same stake on the big match.

To qualify for your free In-Play bet, simply place a bet before kick-off, then once the game starts place another bet on any In-Play market. If your FIRST In-Play bet loses we will refund this stake, up to the same value as your largest pre-match bet (max €50).

They're a far better side than 3/4 years ago in fairness (when those qualifiers were on). Even then they beat Czech Rpe 3-2 at home

Scezny in goal is only 22, Lewandowski's only 23 up front. They're immediately huge upgrades on where they were 3 years ago

Their squad isn't great but their first 11 is pretty good. I expect them to win this game and easily qualify for quarter finals

First off a patriotic bet on Ireland to win the tournament at 80/1 - 20e (10 of that is for my Dad! so dont judge it too harshly)

Persnally think this is a wasted bet but can understand it for patriotic reasons. You realise you got the worst possible price though? Most places are 100/1 and realistically I would say we are about 500/1.

But I'm guessing you only have a PP account and aren't too bothered about the extra value...

Along with everyone else here, this is a bet I hope you win!

    I went for the following

    Poland
    Germany
    Ireland
    France

all to qualify from their groups, put a €5 on it returns a little over €80

I know Ireland are long shots in the greater scheme of things, but @9/2 it was too good to turn down.

To be honest if Ireland win the Euros it wont bother me that I could have won an extra 200e if I placed the bet elsewhere. I'd happily settle for my 800e and a hangover!

I'm pretty confident it's a 'wasted bet' though but sure it makes things interesting, I imagine 90% of the bets posted in this thread are going to be 'wasted bets'.

I'm pretty confident that with all the bets Ive placed I could easily break even with small potential for a big win on a few bets I have. I don't consider gambling a viable source of income, entertainment is the name of the game!

Outside of that, gonna be a tad more riskier with the first game with much bigger amounts -

Poland Win to Nil @ 15/8
    Under 2.5 double @ Evens

I think it was based around the whole "90% of the bets on this thread are wasted bets" line. When a lot of the odds quoted are short prices you can understand how ridiculous this statement is!

Anyway like you say most people here are betting for fun, especially on the euros. Most people will break even, or win/lose a little.

Ah boll0x. Was looking at these at 2am this morning and they were 12/1 and 10/1.

France/Benzema double was 33/1 and now it's 22/1. Christ some money must have gone on them in the last few hours.

Still gonna go with them though, as singles.
