Bayern take the lead early in the match and chelsea who initially were setup quite defensively pull level thru a frank lampard penalty. Drogba scores mid way thru second half and with bayern pressing forward torres who had earlier come off the bench breaks away to score the third

Just a reminder, we are already well into "late" time where the scoring dog takes a little nip at your ankle, then after 0300 we enter 24h of "late late" time where the scoring dog takes a big bite out of your leg. After that, we go into "prohibited time" where none may enter because scoring dog is now inside the house barking very loud.

U have been warned. Once the dreaded table of entries appears, the fates of all are sealed. Isn't this contest fun?

Football scores are listed Bayern-Chelsea and * indicates extra time, ** for penalty kicks and score in that case was to be 0-0 before kicks. Some other scores for teams that were beaten earlier have been left out of the table, one prediction says "B" from "ABC" no score ventured. The consensus for the football score is based on averages after revising -2 to zero for one prediction. The average score suggested was just about 3-1 for BM.

As for the weather in May, the consensus seems to be cool, rather cloudy but near normal for rainfall. Some idea of how the second half of the month might go can be seen in the predicted maxima, these vary quite widely.

After this point, no further forecasts will count in contest.

Looks like MT will bag the first scoring points this month with his Darkmanesque low prediction of -4.4 ...that in Ballyhaise I suspect. Don't ever remember -4.4 in May in Ireland so that will be some class of a record if it comes off.

Actually I am wrong. -5.6c was recorded in May 1979 in Glenties. Co. Donegal which is/was a climatological station.

Clones, a synop station. recorded -3.7c that day and that station moved to Ballyhaise in recent years. I'd say no IMT station went to -4.4c or lower in my lifetime in May but it has happened....in 1945.

Suspiciously -3.7c was Deep Easterlys forecast.

IMT was 8.6 C, worth noting that Casement managed 2.6 C on Sunday 6th and the daily IMT was only 5.4 C.

Rainfall has averaged 123% of normal, wettest in east, relatively dry north.

Sunshine for five available stations 74%.

Extremes that I have noted, 18.4 and -3.6 C. Hopefully only one of these is set for the month.

UPDATE for the second week ...

IMT is now a mere 8.3 C, with the week at 8.0, about 2-3 below normal.

Rainfall has continued similar to first week, falling slightly to 120% (week at 117%).

Sunshine for five available stations now up to 91% after a week with 108%.

Bonus question points looks like going to the 5 competitors who predicted max 13c or lower for Saturday next in Claremorris.

We'll see what the final report is, I saw an hourly of 12 C at Claremorris about 4 p.m. ... but pretty sure the low four guesses will score the most points.

Seems that most of us should stick to the weather and not get into sports predictions, at least I should for sure. Looking at our panel of experts, dacogawa, nilhg and jd predicted the right score, but in all cases not mentioning extra time or penalty kicks. Rameire was the only contestant to predict a Chelsea win after extra time. Homolumo was the only one to mention penalty kicks but had Bayern to win.
