Has anyone got pampas grass in their garden, would you reccommend it? How does it grow ?? What sort of ground does it prefer (wet, dry) ?????

Assuming that you like it, it is easy to grow and will grow pretty well anywhere. It only spreads in a clump - it doesn't have suckers. You have to cut down the fronds annually to keep it tidy. It would take quite a gale to knock down the fronds.

The clump can get pretty massive though, and if it gets too big we found it very difficult to split it, you pretty well have to dig it up, and its not very manageable. Not very deep rooted though. Think pickax and chain saw rather than spade.

Pampas Grass is beautiful, there are two kinds, sorry I don't know their official names but one has tall straight plumes, the other has plumes which bow their heads gracefully. Ground doesn't matter to it. Eventually it will reach about 5' in width and height 6'.
