    Anyone have any idea how much it costs (approx) to have front driveway paved for average semi in west dublin? Sorry if post is in wrong forum

    Size of driveway might help.;)

    Type of paving aswell??

    Flags,block pavers??

    It is about 30 feet wide and 40 feet long, part concrete, part grass now.
    I was thinking of leaving one nice tree and curving the paving stones/kerb around it so not sure what to call it paving maybe?
    Sorry for the vague post!

    What about making a raised garden to the side of the new driveway and have a tree as the main feature.

    Then underplant the tree with various flowers and evergreen ground cover.

    Thats what my girlfriend did with our old weedy garden and cracked concrete driveway,so we got the best of both worlds.:)

    Not sure about prices, but be careful when you get a quote that it includes removing the rubbish - soil and concrete. It can cost nearly as much as the rest of the job! And agree whose responsibility it is if they hit power cables or water pipes. Also check what depth of fill they are going to put under the paving, and that they will use a compactor.

    Thats what the companies own insurance is for (liability and public liabilty insurance cover).



    Dont forget a good strong weed membrane (Mypex) and silica sand too (paver joint filling).;)

    County Council and Board Gais will have plans of where the various utilities (mains water and mains gas into house from path/road outside )are,with regards to the house/garden.


    As Bord Gais say.........."Dial Before You Dig".

    God maybe it's just as well we can't afford to do anything with it at the moment, sounds like there is lots to think about/ask.

    Your pics look great Paddy, that is the kind of idea we were hoping for.
    House is great, still very much a work in progress and a slow one at that , love having the big back garden though.
    In general it is all good.

    Dont be put off by any gardening work involved.

    You will find that you can do it yourself with some time and some elbow grease.
    You will also sale ALOT of money too.:D




    Around 4000 euro all in......(digging up old garden/concrete driveway,removal of all waste,804 hardcore/sharp sand and Mypex weed membrane installed and then new block paving supplied and laid and filed in with silica sand)......would be a realistic figure to work off.

    Any garden design and planting work would then be extra cost,but thats where you and your wife come into play and have a bash at it yourself.:)

    Yes, kinda the point I was making, make sure they have insurance. If you ask them who is responsible and they have insurance they will tell you, which gives you the opportunity to ask to see it. If you just ask to see the insurance they will be so busy getting offended and talking round in circles that it takes much longer to tell them to take a hike.

    And from personal experience I can tell you that the theory of where power cables etc are situated, and how deep, and where they are in fact are often not related.
